PS3 High Quality Blu-ray Player?

And cables make much more of a difference than the actual players in a lot of cases. Which is why PS2 is widely regarded as a bad DVD player for the time. In RGB it was perfectly fine, considering it was released in 99! With composite, which was the only cable bundled with the PS2, all DVD players look like crap.

PS3 will have digital video output (well, the 60GB one anyway) so this time it won't be about the cables at least.

And assuming that the PS3 will be a bad Bluray player just because PS2 was "a bad DVD player" (which it wasn't, at the time, and provided you plug it with decent cables) is like saying that just because the Pentium 4 was a bit crap, all other Intel CPUs from now to eternity will be "a bit crap"...

Baseless assumption at its best.

"20th Century Fox has finally, officially unveiled their first batch of Blu-ray Disc titles, timed to coincide roughly with the November release of Sony's BD-equipped PlayStation 3 game system ."

now that means that 20th Century will hurt the 4+ months of delay of ps3 in europe?

Sorry my post was fairly blunt and lacked information. I bought the PS2 on release (uk), and was considering selling my Pansaonic DVD player to help fund the purchase. First up the Panasonic cost 230 pound, very much a mid level player at the time. When I got the PS2 player it was connected via RGB scart (after waitng weeks to get the cable to enable it). The playback compared to the Panasonic was poor, no doubts , and the differences were easily visible. PS2 had MPEG artifacts, colour bleeding, poor blacks and white's. The sound was also really poor when compare to panasonic (5.1 setup). It was no a mid range player, perfectly capable yes. As for the PS3 I'm no insider but common sense suggests the player will be bog standard, note this does not mean that in terms of PQ it will be worse or significantly worse than a stand alone, I don't know that. However the Panasonic BR will retail for 1400 pound, this suggests to me, that it should be able to archieve better pictures on my PV500.

Well, it better be at that price!! The Panasonic will have a proprietary image processing system that will make our eyes bleed, apparently... Not that i trust Panasonic's marketing any more than Sony's or Toshiba's really...

However, from that to stating that the PS3 Bluray playback capabilities will be "bog standard" is a bit of a long shot, don't you think? Especially seen how you haven't even seen the bloody thing in action!

London, yes bog stand is probably the wrong to term to use, at 425 pound there can be little argument that if you want BR features it represents great value. And if the feature qualities of the PS3 including PQ are only maginally behind the standalone players it will represent fanatstic value. Me I will be using the PS3 as my BR source until the standalones and films are at sensible prices. Oh and sorry for writting pound all the time, but I have just had a brand new desk top in work, however our IT dept' is based in the states and my keyboard and windows options are all set for the US. My keyboard functions are all over the place.

Historically that's how things could have been. Before wired electrics when it was all experimental, massive electrical fields broadcast through the house could enable any grounded device to be powered. I've seen demos of people holding lightbulbs that illuminated in their hands without wires or batteries. I imagine there's some health and safety concerns though ;)
