PS3 Firmware 3.0

Not really sure I'm looking forward to that. How will that intefeer with games that already have a game-chat in the game and part of the online experience?

I'm also a bit fed up with games (i.e. KZ2) that don't let me mute all other players not in my squad by default. And I really hope they give us the option to turn that stupid ticker off and smaller fonts....

If it's anything like XBL, you can have multiple chat channels open at the same time, and can switch between them.

Oh and while I'm at it - PS3 really needs a spam filter. Since the stupid "copy/paste" function, I've been receiving stupid spam messages about boycotting this and that because x and y want to start charging us for q and z. Bloddy annoying. Or they should just disable the function to "paste" into messages to people that are NOT on your list.

I got my first one yesterday. It was about how Sony would start charging for PSN on a certain date. I kept it just so I can reply and say something snarky if they don't start charging. Unfortunately it was from someone on my friend's list. Accepting invites from people you've met in Warhawk can cause issues.

That's weird. I've never gotten such spam and bullshit on Live.

I do recall news of a PSN based boycott of MW2 since the 360 is getting the DLC maps first. As if they are anything more than a rounding error on sales....

Does Live have message forwarding or copy paste?

I think that's what started it.
It's now like 10 years ago, kids forward stuff for their 3 wishes to come true. :)

Does Live have message forwarding or copy paste?

No. But you can write one message and manually select all the friends on your friends plus all the recent players too. You'll see "MTAF" in the message, which means Message To All Friends. The message can even have voice & photo(if you have the Live Vision camera).

Personally I've never received any spam from somebody I don't know.

I get spam all time. Usually it has something to do with COD4.

It won't. See Xbox Live.

Various podcasts are complaining that it does on Live though. I don't game online enough on the 360 to know first-hand though, and that's not likely to change soon either, since I don't think it could in any way spoil things in Forza 3. ;)

Well... I sent the "PSN starts charging" message to deepbrown to ask for confirmation. Those are harmless. If the community is active, you will have chatters like these.

In fact, I received chat room invitations requesting me to invite all my friends to the chat room too. Been to one, friends and strangers piled into the chatroom just for fun (like 16 concurrent users). This lasted for a week 24/7 and it was an interesting experience. I didn't invite any of you. Figured none of you would be curious enough like me ^_^

Other than that, I also got a message with a sexy girl attachment. No obscene XMB messages yet.

It's ok patsu, we wouldn't judge you... what you do in your own time is your own business. :)

You didn't forward that one on? :|

Someone on GAF mentioned that they'd like an option to auto-boot into their chatrooms. I very rarely check - it isn't habit yet - so I'd be keen to see that too.

 Hey, I didn't start it !

Alright, guilty as charged. I should have shared the picture with all the guys using another dummy XMB account. Don't blame me if your girl friends, wives, daughters found it in your XMB inbox though. :devilish:

EDIT: Actually, it was TWO messages with sexy girl attachment. ^_^

Someone sent me a pic of himself(?!) after I ventured out in home for a few hours. The pic was of a hairy fat guy completely naked except for that he was covering his junk. he was laying on a bed that had plaid sheets

This is a whole new side to the PSN (ok, I know I sound naive... but I'm not).

I thought patsu was going to lead the way but specwarGP2 trumped that.

*Gives both a wide berth*

Ha ha, what did you do in Home ?

I have a female avatar. Most of the time, I get tons of invites but nothing offensive.

Heh heh, you don't have to worry about my messages. I will not forward distasteful images to friends. The sexy girl pictures are nice but not R-rated material. Unfortunately, I deleted them from my HDD already.

It's spam from people sending crap to their friends list, tell them off or dump the.

No, the problem usually isn't friends. It's when you play games online (i.e. CoD or KZ2) that people send messages to all the players they've met through the "Players met" list. So, the more players you play against online, the higher the likelyhood that you'll receive unwanted messages from people you don't know. Telling people off that you don't know is pretty pointless since they don't care - and blocking them has no effect, because the next message will be from someone else anyway.

The spam started with the ability to copy/paste into messages, as no 'spammer' will re-write his message to send to each of his people. Copy/Pasting makes it convinient to forward messages to people you don't know.

I didn't do anything really, just walking around and chatting mindlessly. Other home dwellers have told me that my avatar looks homosexual because he has pink hair. :p

Ah yeah, it's better not to stand out in looks except for items. People would be pleasantly surprised when they found out that you can communicate intelligently.
