Vita Firmware 2.10

Seems to me the simpler approach would be to match what current mobile devices (including their own) do to get content to TVs:
  • Screen mirroring
  • MHL
  • Standard video out (through a dock or adapter)
Use the data port on the bottom of PSV for the last 2 (with an adapter/dock) and a new model wouldn't even be needed. Not sure what's required for screen mirroring (on the hardware side). But with that you have all your bases covered here. New TVs with mirroring/MHL support and older TVs with standard video out (component/composite/HDMI). They (Sony) already have the necessary apps for Screen Mirroring from other divisions.

As a user, I think screen mirroring (with cable) would be good. But the TV should charge Vita at the same time.

Wireless display should be done via Gaikai if possible. That way Sony has a consistent wireless platform.

DLNA as a third party app for serving out media.

If they want to make a new model, probably cost or battery life jump would be worthwhile.
The newer models usually use poorer material (loved the original PSP and PS3). So I made the jump early. :p

Something terrible/terrifying, like running a mini-Gaikai server on Vita. :runaway:

 Holy crap, that sounds like a lot of work and an expensive endeavour!

Looking at it from a different perspective, one touch mirroring (wireless) using NFC with the TV remote is something Sony is pushing as easy interoperability between the Xperia and Bravia lines. That builds on top of standard wireless streaming (using an Android app) and MHL which they also support for generic access. I suspect they would expand that to the PSV to have a consistent wireless platform (consistent with their mobile products). Your proposal sounds like some genuine Kutaragi type stuff! I miss that guy and his crazy ideas.

Yeap, the regular Wireless display approaches will be like everyone else. ^_^
If Sony goes there, then the objective is to be as compatible as everyone else. It can probably be done with a dock.

I assume the Gaikai approach would be more optimized for gaming. It may require more than a dock. But they may not be able to pull it off.

Incidentally, Kutaragi is now an external director of Marvelous AQL.
