PS3 Demo Disc (BluRay)

Hurray, the Demo Disc as bundled with the Official Playstation Magazine is back! And benefits greatly from being on BluRay, too. (Hopefully this will mean the US version of this magazine returns in some form, as i think it was cancelled because the PS2 demo disc was no more?)

I could see this as being extremely useful. I wouldn't have to download demos, and I wouldn't have to keep them on my HDD either, or back them up, or redownload them, etc. (I have stacks of PS2 demo discs lying around)

And of course they can throw in some good HD quality (game and movie) trailers on there for good measure.

Heh, well, it's been a while! But in this case I think reviving this one post topic makes a lot of sense.

Yesterday, I was in a store and noticed the UK OPM had a BluRay coverdisc with 12 demos, so it's here at last! I'm very happy to have it as a backup so I can clear these demos off my HDD without worrying whether or not I'd want them back and had to download them again (often being over 1GB).

I haven't tried it yet but it seems like these games are on it:

Burnout Paradise
Skate
Everybody's Golf World Tour
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Kane & Lynch
The Simpsons Game
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
The Darkness
Conan

Very happy about this. In a month, Im deploying, with no way to download demos to my PS3. Now I can get a mag sent to me, with demos to enjoy. Hurrah!

I'd imagine they would - especially if, much like the current situation on PSP and PS3, newer games require it.

Ahh, the excitement of a demo disc - I haven't felt it in ages - not in this age of the internet.

Hey Arwin, can you tell me which issue this one is ? I managed to get the one of the older UK OPM with Resistance 2 on the cover its an issue 016 for March. What's on the cover of the one you got is it April or May ?

You know these demos still have to be installed on the hdd, why can't they make it play of the disc like the old PS2 demo discs. I hate juggling stuff off the hdd. Sony really should consider making 500GB hdd standard in the future SKU of PS3, 60GB is not enough. I've got to look into upgrading the hdd.

Well, these coverdiscs sure make it easier for me to just delete those demoes, knowing I don't have to download them again.

I saw the new disc in a shop today, didn't buy it but it had Conflict: Denied Ops I think and 9 others (I think Uncharted was on there again, but the others were new). If they keep this up, I don't think I'll be downloading any more demoes unless there is one that I really, really am interested in. This is a lot more convenient. Good use of the BD!

The Dutch official Playstation magazine now also carries a PS3 BluRay demo disc (they kept on carrying PS2 demo discs for a while longer than the UK magazine). It's awesome, the magazine costs 7 euros including the disc, and it contains no less than 23 demos!

I'm not even sure that all of them have been released on our PSN! Guitar Hero Aerosmith for instance I can't remember, and this demo is better than any download pack I've seen for that game, and it's free! There are 5 songs on it, among which two of my favorite Aerosmith songs (Dream On and Walk This Way Run DMC version), and one of my favorite Slash guest solos in Lenny Kravitz's Always On the Run.

Also, there's an Overlord: Raising Hell demo, which I also don't remember having seen a demo of on the PSN.

Most demos worth having (Uncharted, Ratchet, Burnout, etc.) are on this disc, and it'll make it a lot easier to clean up the HDD having this lying around.
