[PS3,360] Final Fantasy XIII-2

Retailer exclusive "content" that actually rebalances a core gameplay mechanic.

Suddenly I feel very tired.

I suspect people who care about balance simply ignore the bonus. The game is SP only right ?

Others who whore after item collection may bite. I already got some of these bonus items in other games, but usually forget to activate them.

Japanese Final Fantasy XIII-2 is Complete
http://andriasang.com/comz1o/

From Weekly Famitsu's interview with Motomu Toriyama this week comes word that the Japanese version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 was recently completed. The staff is currently at work on the game's North American and European versions, and on download content.

The Japanese version of XIII-2 will lead the rest of the world with a December 15 release on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Toriyama shared a number of bits about XIII-2 with Famitsu, covering download content, play time and more
...

Playtime is 30-40 hours according to the interview. Read the interview yourself if you want to know more about the game. :)

Funny they didn't do a piece on improvements over FFXIII. I think a lot of people want to know what SE have learned from that game.

The only enhancements I know so far are:
* Monster mechanics (You can add monsters to your party, and customize them ?)
* Less linear than FFXIII

Pretty sure there will be "Townz" as well.

Anyway, pre-order bs or not, I'm very much looking forward to it. Getting the Crystal edition myself because of the soundtrack.

Yeah, not knowing what they did exactly, I lumped it under "Less Linear".

Here's the obligatory opening scene for FFXIII-2.

EDIT: Pre-order bonus for EU...

Noel Can Wield The Muramasa, If You Reserve Final Fantasy XIII-2
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/11/2...muramasa-if-you-reserve-final-fantasy-xiii-2/

In Europe, you can get the Muramasa by reserving the game at select retailers.

This transforming spear/sword is a "weapon of fey power, feared as the blade that will strike down time’s master." Fancy words to describe its chain bonus boosting property in battle. So far, Muramasa has not been announced for North America or Japan.

I am totally annoyed with all this DLC bs. I want a complete game with all the features and hidden stuff that I can find after having the game for 2 years. Enough of these special weapons in DLC bs. From my point of view X13 - 2 seems like a newer build of X13 that they had on the planned to release from day one - they aren't going to make any major changes to the engine - just package and ship - same game different cutscenes. Yeah you can complain all you want but this is the new gaming industry.

I am waiting for the HD remix version of IX. All these new interactive movie games are pointless.

You're not wrong. FFXIII-2 is built on the same platform and tools as FFXIII. The producers also publicly acknowledged that they hope to reuse the combat engine since they spent so much time refining it.

The problem with FFXIII was not technology or combat related. So I don't think it's a bad thing to reuse them. In my mind, the first flaw I would zero in on was the terrible story in FFXIII. If the FFXIII-2 story is decent, I might actually give it a serious look.

At the moment, the only thing that interests me (just a wee bit) is the new monster collection mechanics and perhaps more open world design.

Hmm... you don't think an action RPG FF would work ? If it's mashing buttons to hack and slash, then I agree it's not so interesting.

Patsu i think an action RPG Final Fantasy would work as a spin off game or something like that. But personally, what makes Final Fantasy Final Fantasy for me is the crazy summons, limit breaks, magic and all that awesomeness that you just couldn't effectively do in a command-based battle system. At the end of the day It's not like FFXIII didn't even sell (>5m copies sold). That hardly speaks to me of people turning away from turn-based battle systems.

On the other hand, if SE take another 10-12 years to make the next mainline FF game then all of us old JRPG game fans that grew up on turn-based command-based battle systems will have moved on (with wives and kids and not enough time to sink into 40hr JRPGS) and the only market they'll have left are those young uns who never knew those traditional style systems, and so would be more likely to regard them as archaic.

I guess it would become a QTE fest. ^_^

Perhaps they can experiment with a DLC first.

 You guys... No ! The combat in FFXIII is not a QTE fest. The user gets to decide how and when to deploy their little troop on demand.

[Go to store room to find my sniper rifle]

I need to calm down. Calm down. Have you played FFXIII ?

You can stick to the same strategy and order the members to use different attacks/spells.

Absolutely, I have more hours in it than any other game this gen or last (xbox1). It doesn't change the fact that turn based games are qte's or a string of qte's during combat. Personally, I don't have the disregard that other do for qte. I get no thrill from trying to execute some complicated 4 button sequencial mash. I also like my games to have a story which puts me further into a minority.

I don't know man, if the definition is too wide, almost every game would fit under that category. There is no strict timing for FFXIII's combat system.

As long as you know the system, I guess it doesn't really matter what you want to call it.

All About Final Fantasy XIII-2′s Fields And Chocobos
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/11/29/all-about-final-fantasy-xiii-2s-fields-and-chocobos/

Chocobos are everywhere in Final Fantasy XIII-2. You can have them in your party as an attacker or race them in the game’s casino-like world, Serendipity. Chocobos can also act as mounts on the field, if you’re carrying gysahl greens. Serah and Noel won’t be attacked by enemies while riding a chocobo.

...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 change throughout the game. The magazine mentioned the Archylte Steppe, which has four different weather conditions – fine weather, sandstorm, thunderstorm, and one other not disclosed by the magazine. Monsters and music change depending on the weather.

New to Final Fantasy XIII-2 are conversation choices called Live Trigger events. Players can press one of the face buttons (circle, cross, triangle or square) to answer for Noel or Serah. One event shown in Famitsu has a sub-character ask a question and the choices are "My Sister," "Snow," "Noel," and "the family cat is important!"
