Project Gotham Racing 4

We know how they are doing the reflections now (map the previous frame) so that shouldn't be a surprise! ;) Too bad the lighting is downgraded in gameplay!

I preferred the iris effect in PGR3, but a slew of people here complained about it. So where are they now?

Anyhow, PGR4 is a significant graphical upgrade. I am surprised more people cannot see past the art and see the technical differences. The number of, "It looks just like PGR3 and not much better" comments floating out there (even in reviews) is mind boggling. But my theory is people are more drawn to art than anything else. Hence why so many can stomach such poor filtering seen in most console games (at least PGR4 is a step in the right direction there).

i agree, moving to true 720p is the first step to HD gaming. also like i said, the environment in pgr4 is quite eye catching even though the cars are still very plastic look.

Compared to what? Photo mode adds only AA, optionally colour filters.

Compared to PGR3. In PGR4's photo mode, if you look at a bright area, the whole screen's contrast is adjusted. This is also true to some extent in PGR3, but then during the race. In photomode, I can get the lighting in PGR4 to look really good by adjusting contrast and such, and I feel they screwed up by not doing better with this during the race. PGR4 feels rushed and I'm sure that if they had had a little more time they could have gotten the lighting right, or implemented some of the better lighting in Photomode in the game also.

EDIT: What Joshua said! :) And otherwise, PGR4 really does look heaps better than PGR3 in terms of pure image quality - PGR3 sucked in that respect, sorry to say it. When I first saw the game, after I was done admiring the lighting effects and in-car view, I was shocked how disappointing it was graphically. If you have any doubts, just look compare the graphics in the two PGR demos! But the lighting in PGR3 was much more exciting, and in PGR4 could have been setup much better even just with changing the 'art' (contrast levels etc). Even in PGR4 though, sometimes jaggied really stand out for some reason.

Can someone tell me, if you play the 'career', do you have to race with motorbikes, or can you avoid them?
I haven't finished a season, but so far the only time I was required to drive a bike was an optional invitational in which you win the bike. You can skip it if you don't like it though the bikes can be fun.

Overall I like PGR4, but a couple things bug me. First is the capture the track game mode seems to be gone. I loved that as even if you didn't win the race you could still have the best section times.

Second is they still haven't added a random track option so I wouldn't need to manually change the track after each race when hosting.

As a bonus it would have been nice if all of the cars from the first game were included. They already have the models, but maybe updating the handling would have been too much work.

I doubt the models or the handling are the problem. Those car might not have been included due to licensing issues more than anything else.

Or maybe they ran out of space, or a combination?

Game sizes are fairly common knowledge if they're ripped. PGR4 is 6.6gb, so there's still lots of space.

Actually, according to the Gamefest 2007 slides on disc usage, 360 devs only have 6.8 GiB to use :!: 200MB ought to be enough for some car models though. :)

Wow, do you have a link?

What the hell is the other 3gb used for? Copy protection obviously failed, so why not free it up?

I agree with you pgr 3 image quality was very poor 1024 x 600 didnt help im so glad pgr 4 runs at native 1280 x 720p also overall texture, shadowing, lighting quality seems to have improved alot.

I have full game still havent played much of it i have been playing other new titles instead but ill come here to post some more strong points about pgr4 as i notice them.

Well, I finally got around to playing the demo…

The Good: Graphically the most impressive driving game I ever played or seen. The weather effects are beyond awesome. The one on one course with the lightning effects (amongst other things) just blows away the GT:5 Pro demo, hands down.

The Bad: The car designs, feel, shading, etc…are still a few notches below GT:5 Pro cars. However everything else (buildings, landmarks, sky, etc…) makes GT:5 Pro demo graphics look predated.

The Ugly: The bikes feel sort of cheap; like a last minute tack on.

Overall: 10/10 "A MUST FIRST DAY MUTHA-FING BUY" :cool::cool::cool:

I dont agree with the lighting being worse than in pgr3 i think it's got a more real feel in pgr4 i think the problem is the shading it was alot better on pgr3.

Anoyone here knows why R6 does not go above 13.500 rpm on this game? Because the real bike goes up to 18.000..
