Right, back to my issue. So i can't partition my HDD now. It had to be done at formattin stage i guess. New/Second HDD...? Gosh i so can't be bothered with all this crap...

And i guess it's far too late to partition the hard drive now. Why am i even asking....?

-Resize partition with Partition Magic ( If you have 20Gb free, resize until you have 15GB unallocated )
-Create partition in the unallocated space
-Install windows in the new partition

Done.

Only thing is, you still have the old windows folder on the harddrive.

No viruses, i have Norton installed and the PC is offline anyway.

But Partition Magic aint free!!! And it's not Fat32, it's NFTS (or whatever it is)....

I say make sure you have indexing service turned off & see if that works before you start getting funky with resizing partitions.

But yes, you definitely should have Windows installed into a 5-10gb partition for easy wipe/reinstall & everything you don't want to lose on a different partition.

How do i check whether i have indexing on or off?

And it's too late now to re-partition my HDD it seems...

Might be worthwhile defragging your hdd too...

Well i do like the real thing better.... And i do spend time doing it too!! Or at least making sure that i keep getting it!

The whole backing up would fit in less than 10 DVDs. But that's 10 DVDs i dont want to waste for such a stupid thing! They aint cheap u know... And if i go for DVDRW, which i think is what i might do, they're even more expensive!

At the moment i'm just working around it with the "start" button thing i explained before...

If this "reinstall windows" thing has to be done twice a year for real, then i might just have to get a second hard drive. No way i'm gonna back up to DVD each time!
