PLEASE HELP IE taking 100% CPU time!!

Reinstalling windows (all sing along to the tune of "When I'm Cleaning Windows" by George Formby) is usually required on a semi-regular basis.

This PC I'm using right now, for example, is definitely creaking at the seams. Mind, I'm going to get a completely new machine for that...

What? Semi-regular? Never heard...
Oh and the last time i had to re-install Windows, it worked by deleting the contents of the hard drive. Needless to say, i aint gonna do it if this is still the case...

By 'reinstalling windows' I mean nuking the drive and restarting. Installing over another copy of windows is a recipe for disaster.

Exactly. That's why i just cannot do it. Backing up a good hundred gigabytes worth of stuff is not fun at all.

a fresh install on a fresh partition makes your pc feel so much faster

start to do it man. Its worth it . Just think of all the hardrive space u will have for new porno !!!!

That's why I always keep my porrn away from the Windows.
Installing Windows on separate partition helps a lot when eventually my Windows breaks, I can keep my prescious downloads safe on their own partition.
Soon I'll have to buy a second HD though, I'm too lazy to make backups on DVD's.

l-b: have you tried any of those registry/dll cleaner software yet? They often worked wonders on my Win98 when it bogged down. Better make a backup of your registry first though.

i too have them on another partition . I just like backing them up. I put them in my draw and lock the draw. That way my sisters can't find my bad habits :)

Haven't tried myself, but guess some software like "Partition Magic" might work.
jvd: I just make my uJod -folder hidden in windows when I don't want someone to see them in my computer.

....or pushed you deeper into hell  :)
Really, I don't know how the repartitioning works as I haven't tried it myself, but you'll sure find some info googling around.
Still, if the other option is to format the whole disk and loose data, there's little to loose in trying.

my sisters know almost as much as me. I'd have to password protect it and then that would make them try to crack it and they will try long enough till they crack it
