Playstation Move Games

Coop dancing:

Singstar Dance is shaping up nicely imho. I now really regret not going to Cologne this year, as apparently Move games weren't that popular so I could have tried all sorts of stuff out. Oh well, my own fault.

Also, RUSE gameplay with Move on PS3. Looks very smooth:

[boxing mechanics]

I played an ultra-laggy boxing game in the Dave & Buster arcade years ago. It's rather tiring but fun. You had to hold 2 gloves and move between 2 vertical bars. Because of the lag, it became a simple game of finding/anticipating "holes" and punch/jab the opponent quickly. At the same time, you have to stay bent and shift your body/head to avoid getting hit.

I expect The Fight to play similarly.

I'd like to know whether the distance between you and the opponent (TV) matters. e.g., If you stay too close to the enemy, are you able to deal powerful blow. In the laggy boxing arcade, the hit detection was a little spotty. I couldn't really tell what's going on, so I ended up retreating further and further away from the arcade unit until the 2 bars lost track of me. Then move up to continue the game again.

I *think* this part will be improved in the new games.

Looks fun, 'specially the synchronized dancing part. I still think they should allow SingStar videos to be posted on Youtube for co-marketing with the music people. Wonder how much that will cost them.

Need to see the game when the action gets really hot. e.g., whether the scrolling is fast enough.

The player looks like Ethan Mars from Heavy Rain. Is that Anton ?

Im not so sure anymore, the game seems to have seen some significant improvements over the last few months. After seeing the 1:1 tracking in the video above the lag doesnt seem to be much at all. The joystiq preview praises the game for its imediacy in fact:

Joystiq preview said:
I didn't find myself making a punching motion and then waiting for a second to see if the game would recognize it as a punch or anything like that.

Yes, this was a problem with the arcade. If the punch is more immediate, then I can see the pace of the game pick up significantly.

Gamestop or EB Games or both, (depending on if you’re living in Canada) is having a sweet deal on the upcoming Sony Playstation Move. Trade in 4 games with mininimum trade value of $8 and get yourself the $99 Playstation Move Bundle absolutely free.

...

I went to my GameStop here and saw they now have the cases for:
* The Fight
* The Shoot
* Kung Fu Rider
* Move Party
* Sports Championship
* EyePet

All are priced @ $40 (I think). Are these the only day 1 launch games ?

Well, on launch I believe it will also support Heavy Rain, Pain, HVB, RE5: Gold Edition, and a selection of other PSN titles.

Edit: Some of those may not be day 1. I do know that Echochrome 2 is supposed to be september, and the Time Crisis game should be there too. I think Tiger Woods and RUSE will also be there day 1.

I think I will get EyePet and RUSE. Not so sure about the body motion games yet. Will probably test them out in the stores.

SS Dance looks good, I mentioned this to the wife and she said 'as long as it works unlike the Wii game' - which I found interesting - apparently the Just Dance game doesn't work all that well...so fingers crossed, looked like very little lag also :)

I also like the fact I can upgrade my current songs - nice touch.

SS Dance looks good,

Are you serious? I thought it looked absolutely abysmal.

Also, I kinda expected, without looking into it at all, that in SS Dance you sung and danced at the same time. So I expected during the singing parts of a song you sung (and maybe made poses, etc) and during the instrumentals there were some moves to perform.

Since seeing the vid above, I've searched youtube for something like that and no, it appears you either choose to sing a song, or choose to dance to a song. Or, it appears, play a guitar.

I truly hope all the current vids are incorrect and it's not as abysmal as it looks in the above vid... and that you can choose to sing AND dance... kinda like the pop stars do in the vids playing in the background of the game.

You can have two singers and two dancers at once. I'm sure that means you can also try to sing and dance at the same time, but personally I still use wired mics (cheap, still had them from my PS2 version) so singing and dancing at the same time is going to be a bit tricky. Maybe they can start supporting the bluetooth headset for singing in the future ... Because even with the wireless mic, I don't see myself holding the mic in one hand and dancing with the move controller in the other.

Yes, it's been a (Rock Band) complaint I've had - I'd love to play guitar/drums whilst warrbling along...like you said, you can singe with left hand holding mic and dance with right hand holding Move - or alternatively get a mic stand. Would like to see BT headsets supported...hhhmmm...I'm fairly certain RB Beatles supports the mic off the PS eye also.

Ah, yes, of course. Yes, I could still do that - I have a stand and actually used it to test this out with a Singstar mike in the stand and a guitar hero guitar.

That kind of thing may well still be possible though, but I doubt that dance moves will be made suitable to keeping your head in front of the mike.

Proof (though I must strongly remind you - this was purely intended as a test, not a performance - it's the second time I do it and I focus 100% on passing the song, I think I have guitar at hard, singing at medium). I recommend you keep your sound muted ;) :

Isn't there a mic plug for use with headset on the PS3 version of the hardware? It's easy enough to drum and sing with the 360 headset.

With regards to Singstar or Dance (and it will now be called), surely they could have designed tracks to be played iwth the move controller in the left hand, mic in the right hand and dancing to be highlighted during instrumental sequences, with simpler dancing or posing when actually singing.

If not, then that is a very poor decision.

I wasn't going to, but then you started singing ;)

Props for posting the vid though.

WRT the headset - probably, it was ages ago I tried it.

WRT SS Dance I guess the problem is making it too complicated, you'd need several game modes to cover all the possible modes esp as this is now 4 player.

So I'm playing a certain Zombie Shooter Beta type thing and I can't help but think how fun this game would be with move support. Granted, it's isometric view makes that strange, but just pointing (and having the character aim there like a touch screen DS title) with Move and moving with navicon just makes me drool. I guess I can dream!

I'm going to dial back my expectation for "full-on" motion tracking games until I have played with one. I suspect it's a very personal experience. What works for others may not be suitable for me, and vice versa. :(

I am somewhat surprised by Socom 4's negative feedback so far. Quite a few posters didn't seem to like it. My reference would be MAG. Hope to try that out also.

So for now, it's all the new experiences. Games that can't be done well, or just not done, on DS3. EyePet is an easy one. RUSE (RTS) is the only other one in my mind.

That Move party game looks ok too.

Would be interested in impressions about the other motion tracking games.

Having the cursor's movement independent of the screen just isn't the way to go, IMO, based on my experiences with the Wii. Imagine playing a FPS on the PC where the screen's movement was independent of the mouse's movement. Where the cross-hair moved with the mouse but the view remained the same until the cross reached the "edge" of the screen, at which point the character's head (the player's view) would begin to move in that direction. That's pretty much how the Socom's controls are setup at the moment based on what I can tell. In my opinion, the key is to treat the cross-hair the same on the Move as you would with the mouse or a DS3. Lock the players view and the cross-hairs together. When the Move moves, the cross-hairs move, and the screen moves along with it. Cross-hair's always center, essentially. The cross hair being unlocked works fine for GunCon games because the player's movement is on rails, and so is their view. Doesn't work well outside of that. All in my opinion, of course.
