Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

My guess is that this is in light of Luna (and I think Gamepass, but I'm not so sure) being open with their plan of getting around iOS's streaming restriction bollocks by way of using the web browser.

I used my PS4's web browser a handful of times, and it's rubbish. The PS5's probably would've been too. So if there was to be a web browser, I'd prefer an option to buy Opera or Firefox. As it is, we probably won't see one unless the market shifts to XCloud, Luna, and Stadia being present on the Switch and XSS/X too.

So I'll just make peace with continuing to not use my games console when I fancy a wank.

Did you use the PS4 browser? I think I used it very early on but it was pretty limited. I use my LG's browser a ton though, I watch Apple livestream events through that and voice search and navigation make it a dream to use.

If you're going to put a browser in, it's got to be a good implementation. Maybe a browser is coming down the line, it does feel like a weird omission in this day and age but Sony may have numbers showing almost nobody uses it.

I love how carefully worded that is, clearly indicating that the OS still features a browser component that games and other apps likely use internally for all sorts of stuff. Perhaps they are worried that if they include their own dedicated browser, the EU will force them to allow you yo choose between chrome, Firefox and edge [emoji16].

But yeah, I bet the usage statistics of the old PS5 browser showed them any effort invested into that and keeping it secure etc had little return.

And that is an impressive FAQ ... I read it through and that ... took a while!
 
Yeah, I think I used the PS4 web browser once with Second Son, the online mission paper trail thingy and never again. For game guides like The Binding of Issac, I used my mobile browser instead,

Well I tried a couple of times and it was pretty terrible.. I guess mostly because no one figured out how to browse using a gamepad yet, and the touchpad is too small to use with it IMO.
It is indeed a weird omission, though nowadays everyone + their dog have smartphones in their hands so using those to see maps / walkthroughs / hints is a lot more convenient than switching app between the game and the godawful browser.
 
I thought it was pretty stupid you couldn’t just use the motion controls as a mouse. It’s precise enough. But I think there was never a cursor built into that in the first place.
 
Well my guess would be that the browser was mostly used for looking up game hits and FAQs (and porn). But now that you can get that help directly whilst in game there is very little need for a browser. Unless porn. :?
