PGR4: New Snow on the Ring trailer

um proof that it won't look like that outside of a slight downgrade in AA to 4x? afaik, devs have said that photmode is not yet implemented, at least up until this batch of SS's. give me a link saying these are photomode? I agree that AA has been tweaked, but photomode (at least as seen in PGR3) would indicate an improved light model. motion blur could very easily be in game.

 I did'nt know gameplay had those camera angles. If its no photomode its replay fotage and going from PGR3 photomode and replays enhanced the graphics.

Here are some ingame screenshots and different view screenshots and replay looks basically the same as ingame play except for motion-blur/depth of field effects. :)

You never noticed motion blur in GTHD replays?

What you call this then?

I find it fascinating, that people who are able to point out stuff like 60fps vs 30fps, amount of AA, HDR and other stuff, arent able to notice that their favorite game has motion blur in replays.
I also failed to inform you I haven't seen a replay in GT since I played GT1 on the PS1.

Nothing bores me more to be honest with you.

Nothing like the previously released bullshots mind you......

My opinion is that this race track (the ss above) with the weather effects including thunder is better than most if not all "BS" reeleased for this game so far.
The water effects on the car and the water puddles on the ground that react to the vechicle (dynamic fluid or simulation of it?) just adds to the game. Maybe some "BS" looked better since I haven't seen all ss of the game but doesn't change that I think this is the best looking car game so far.

I think I like these shots better, not sure why. But PGR3 on the 360 in the end looked so different from the impressions I got from trailers videos and screenshots that I'm going to reserve my judgment for now.

well i dunno about this "screenshots realtime or not " debate, but i checked out the new gameplay clip on ms's conference and the game looked awesome to me  now i have to decide if i'm getting pg4 or burout paradise (i'm inclined to burnout at the moment)

I think the gameplay video was a real-time gameplay, to be sure we have to verify if the Kudos increase in PGR replay mode (don't remember if yes of not?).

Oh yes it is real-time gameplay with the bike and the other ss are from same gameplay but from another view.

Now that I am rediscovering this little gem of PGR3, mainly because I tried to compare the sensations the cockpit camera can produce to those of the Forza 2 and its bonnet camera, I'd like to take a look at the past of this series, specifically the aforementioned PGR3.

It was my first Xbox 360 game, I've had a lot of fun but I missed the perfection of that masterpiece called PGR2. Anyways, the graphics were truly great, even at 1024x600.

Here are some real life vs PGR3 comparisons:

And, finally, a couple of cars:

I can't wait for more of these real life - PGR comparisons when PGR4 comes out.

Why do I look to the past showing these pictures? Well, PGR3, for its time, was really something. PS commercials, among other things, are very representative of this fact.

I still remember some people stating that X360 was an Xbox 1.5. They didn't look favourably on it, but it was so evident with games like PGR3 that next gen has started long ago, from the very first day. Time told they were wrong but there were doubts at the time about the console ability.

Regarding PGR3's dashboard camera, I love it. You can feel every bump and dip on the road, you can look at 3 mirrors -two at the same time- like a real car and it's just awesome for an arcade game. It's at the same level of GTR's cockpit camera or Live for Speed in that regard.

I know we'll see this feature in Forza 3 when it comes out. It will add a lot to this series and it would strengthen the personality of the game.

Games like PGR have that something special, a strong personality that, sadly, games like FM2 currently lack. It has yet to find that *sweet spot* both as a game and as a racing sim (they are in the right track, though)

Anyway, this is not a comparison post, just a thought. I am so looking forward to PGR4, specially after that craptastic FM2 career mode, but I'm the slave of my words when I wrote Forza 2 would, most probably, my last X360 game -not taking into account XBLA games like Final Doom-, but, you know, people change  and PGR4 looks somewhat special, too.

Peace

It was almighty not me. Anyway, that comparison was made by some fan after the game was released using photomode.
Oops, my bad.

So you mean all those screenshots were made with data that shipped with the game? Holy crap! That means there's a good chance we'll see that sort of detail in game eventually. Photo-mode can't work miracles. If they chop up their index buffers and do some finer object based frustum culling, we could see 4xAA easily. The more I see comparisons like this, the more I think RAM is the biggest factor in creating photorealism, not huge pixel shaders or Teraflop raytracers.

Does photomode really have a different lighting model? What would some of those screens look like just before you take the pic?

Good thing the game doesn't have as many cars as the real life photo. Real life doesn't look like fun.

Just checked if it was indeed after game's release and it turns out the comaporisons was posted on 11-01-2005, which means before launch.
here's an actual fan-made photo mode screen:

I think Bizarre's comparison was actually made with in-game's photomode, but they did it avoiding things that ddidn't look that realistic (cars, trees etc.).

I'm unable to answer that, I didn't play the game since early 2006. But environments in videos look similar.

Yeah it does. Pretty noticeably different. The interesting thing is that photomode doesn't have that huge a drop in performance. I'd say it drops to about 15fps, but that is with a pretty insane AA level. You can turn on photomode through the in game camera and walk around the garage. Def not smooth, but I figure with 2xAA instead 16 samples or whatever it uses and some optimizations, and that lighting model could work. Looks quite nice actually.

 I did'nt know gameplay had those camera angles. If its no photomode its replay fotage and going from PGR3 photomode and replays enhanced the graphics.

First of all, I'm not saying ur not right about graphical enhancements during replay, just asked for proof, because what you have said is thusfar completely unsubstantiated, and your word flies pretty short distances with me. And please don't use those bullshit eye roll emoticons, they are for 13 year old cyberhumping AOL users not mature and sensible Beyond3d posters ;)

Second of all, what holds true for PGR3 does not nec. hold true for PGR4. For instance, currently all ss's demonstrated are (as far as we've been told by dev's) from ingame/replays and not any sort of photo mode (which, according to them, has not been implemented at this point). As for replay mode, PGR3 certainly did nothing to the graphics that was noticeable to my eyes, except for maybe a bit of motion blur? Dunno, but nothing that I could tell from my copy. What were the enhancements? It may have been something minor, dunno, except for different camera angles, I did not notice anything super cool.

And did you really not know that gameplay mode had angles like that or are you making fun of me? My english is not so good...

X360 is unable to render higher than 4x AA, photmode or no photomode. Hardware limitation
