Heh, there's a quote from the MTV blog where a question was asked whether the Bungie announcement was a Halo announcement, it they were given confirmation. Then, when asked whether it was the Halo squad based game or the Peter Jackson project, they were told "neither". So who knows.Rumors are about a squad-based coop shooter with up to 8 players, all of which are simple human and not Spartans like Master Chief. But it could just as well be speculation.
Heh, the only people I could see not wanting a new Halo game are publishers trying to launch during the same month as it. Do you rememeber Halo3's sales? It's hard to see those numbers and think gamers are "tired" of it.I was hoping Bungie was working on something non-Halo. I'm sure they are tired of the IP as are many gamers.

Just how good is MGS4 doing anyway? We know it sold a million copies quickly, but where's it now?
No idea. I assumed we were talking about first week/month success, since that's when most 'huge' games sell anyways. So by that metric, MGS4 did excellently, though not as well as Halo 3 or GTA4, naturally.

It's my understanding that Halo Wars is a RTS, not a squad-based shooter.
"Two big kahunas were left out of the show, and we were still able to deliver a strong performance," Mattrick said.
One was a game from Bungie, maybe another Halo game. I wonder what the other was?

Mattrick put a positive spin on the development, saying that Microsoft had managed to build such a solid foundation that it no longer needed to depend on one or two games to succeed. He noted that the company also left out Grand Theft Auto IV.
If any of the Big 3 platforms could be said to have "won" E3, it was Microsoft's Xbox 360, according to Yankee Group analyst Mike Goodman. The moves it made to bolster the social aspects of gaming as well as provide new entertainment channels -- not to mention the coup Xbox scored courtesy of Square Enix -- made its announcements the most compelling of the show, he said....
...Microsoft, however, showed that it is playing on one of its strongest selling points -- Xbox Live -- Goodman explained.
... the company is still a relative newcomer. As such, it needs to work harder than both Nintendo and Sony to capture and grow its installed base.
...Microsoft, according to Goodman, had the greatest degree of innovation in its announcements -- in particular, the addition of avatars and the Primetime channel to Xbox Live unveiled at E3 Monday. With the Primetime channel, Microsoft capitalizes on people's love for game shows. The interactive competition allows Xbox Live subscribers to compete against each other in real time.
Set to roll out this fall, the first game coming to the channel is NBC's "1 vs. 100." Much like its televised counterpart, the Xbox Live version will have a live host and put a single challenger up against 100 other users. Microsoft is also offering prizes.
...The addition of avatars for Xbox Live -- which look much like the Mii avatars Nintendo has long used on the Wii platform -- ushers in an innovative way for the online service's subscribers to interact with other. A slew of music-based games including "Lips," "Guitar Hero World Tour" and "Rock Band 2," are set to roll out by the end of 2008. The titles take advantage of the fact that 80 percent of the revenues from music-related games come from Xbox Live, combining console- and online-based play.
The news that Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) will begin streaming movies directly to the Xbox 360 was a welcome announcement, Goodman said.
Another surprise was Square Enix's announcement that it plans to port the upcoming "Final Fantasy XIII" for the Xbox 360. That is a contradiction to earlier statements the game developers issued in 2007 that the title would remain a PlayStation 3 (PS3) exclusive, he said.
"Microsoft's announcements showed that it is taking an innovative approach with its Xbox Live service. It's good to see them doing something different,"
