Offical ps3 thread part 2

You have to understand that for us consumers it would be great. But for sony it would be a nightmare. More things to break. More headaches .

Besides when you can own a ps1 for 20 bucks today or get a ps2 for about 150 used who cares. YOu can own a ps2 and take it out whenevre you want to play those psone games .

Huh???!?! You got to be kidding, to come up with that! An EE/PSX core in 2005 era manufacturing technology is suddenly going to be prone to breaking?!

Who's gonna care? Someone who can have PS3/PS2/PS1 functionality in one single box at $300 is gonna care (instead of 3 boxes at a cost of $300+$150+$20). It's like arguing what's the point of having a DVD player that costs like any other DVD player and also plays CD, CDR, VCD, and mp3 when you can just buy 4 other separate components to hook up to your stereo instead. The last thing my stereo needs is a reason to hook-up 5 other components that handle some sort of optical media instead of just 1 that will handle all of them.

Well lets see you can buy a ps3 that plays ps2 and ps3 games and then a 20$ psone . Or if your one of oh the 70 million people that own a ps2 just keep it and buy a ps3 and then have acess to all the games.

Also who knows how the design will work shrunk down to a certian point . Who knows if there wont be problems with it in the grand design. Who kows wtf will happen when they need to have 4 complex chips in the ps3.

Quaz you are wrong the ps3 will be able to do those pics you showed maybe 2nd or 3rd gen games we're looking at

let the hype begin.

What hype there is no hype here I think the ps3 could produce the graphics
This is where the problem lies. You think. You have no proof though. So i can post a pic of myself and say the xbox 2 will render that well. As long as i think that its fine ?

Hey, you ask almost everyone to let you be a pessimistic guy, let him be an optimistic one. I don´t really think those shots will be possible, but who knows? Maybe we´ll something close to that fourth gen games or so. He doesn´t have proof that they will look like that, but do you have conclusive proof that it won´t?

As long as there´s no details, why not let everyone speculate a bit? Afterall, look at what a "limited" machine as the PS2 can produce right now. :)

Yes i have proof . They need to have a gpu to display those graphics and the ps3 only has a cpu and ram :p hehe

Seriously . I'm pessimistic but within reason. I wont state that the games may look no better than the psone games. So why should he ask a question that is designed to fuel the hype machine .

What gpu was those screenshots based on

I believe those were rendered on server farms . Like movies are done. Then saved as a picture and loaded up like any other picture on a desctop

Yes, and the sky may fall if you walk outside. Better not risk going out to buy any of the next gen consoles... If they are set to get this bold new Cell architecture off the ground, worrying about integration issues of PS2/PS1 hardware amounts to maybe a handful of beans in scope. I have no idea why you have such deadset pessimism for such a trivial matter (well actually I do, but bringing it up here won't accomplish anything ;) ).

Mabye because sony has said they will only support two generations at one time and i am listing reasons why they might want to drop support for psone.

Mabye i should be damned if i don't want to get on my knees and praise sony. But hey i think I'm the only one sane here . I mean i actually don't want a monopoly of this market.

Did anyone here suggest that you should? I think you are worried about an agenda that doesn't even exist.

Did MS and Nintendo just opt out unbeknownst to me? Do you really feel Sony is that close already in wiping out the competition?

Rather than attaching Sony's "decision" to some sort of hardware/technology limitation, why not just consider it was simply a business-motivated decision?

When a company has almost 90% of a market that is a monopoly to me. Sony is very close to that . They are almost at 80% right now.

I was just pointing out reasons. I never said this is why and thats it . I said mabye or it could be from this. Don't stuff words in my mouth . I don't do it to u.

PS3 in mid 2005.

PS3 production schedule details emerge from Elpida

Rob Fahey 12:05 11/07/2003
Component supplier schedules broadly in line with expectations for PS3 launch

A late 2005 launch date for the PlayStation 3 looks increasingly likely today, with confirmation from Elpida that it will be beginning production of memory chips for the console early that year.
Earlier this year, Elpida was officially named as the memory supplier for the PS3, with the company set to supply memory architecture based on the Rambus XDR DRAM technologies. The same brand of memory will also be used on other Cell based broadband devices.

Both Elpida and Toshiba, which is also to manufacture XDR DRAM chips, will be beginning initial production in late 2004, and will ramp up to full production in early 2005. It's likely that the vast bulk of Elpida's output will be destined for PlayStation 3.

This suggests a production schedule for the PS3 which would see the console launching in 2005, as anticipated by most pundits. We're not gambling types, but if we were, we'd put money on a mid-2005 launch in Japan, followed by US and European launches only a few months apart later that year - perhaps September 2005 in the USA, and November 2005 in Europe...

whatever it is, it is FAR from a monopoly. nowhere near the kind of monopoly Microsoft has over the PC industry.

The fact it does not look that good does not prevent the GX engine to be quite capable and do some interesting things (like procedural textures).
