NVIDIA GT200 Rumours & Speculation Thread

NVIDIA has its secret weapon fully against RV770/RV770XT, apart from its GT200 lineup.:D

I really don't care about hypothetical "secret weapons".
As the previous high-end generation demonstrated, the fact that Nvidia's card had lower theoretical FLOPS figures than ATI's meant absolutely nothing in the real world.

The 8800 GTX "smoked" the HD2900 XT in every game, and the 8800 GT/8800 GTS 512MB "smoked" the HD3870 in almost every game too.
Based on most of leaked info from RV770 and GTX 280, i'd say the same will happen again this time. In fact, i think 2xRV770 might not even be enough, when you factor in the driver overhead and inherent inefficiency from Crossfire/SLI setups vs single card systems.

GTS didn't "smoke 3870"..the reverse..

Excuse me ?
Every review on the net said otherwise. In fact, now that the 9800 GTX is out, the 8800 GTS 512MB can be had on the bargain and it's not much slower than it.
The HD3870 can compete directly maybe with a 9600 GT, but that's it.

Unless it's in Mass Effect

Showing a 7 fps difference between a HD3870 and a dual-RV670 HD3870 X2 is embarrassing for AMD, to say the least...

As for the performance difference to the Geforce cards, it's not very significant anyway, judging by those numbers.
It is, after all, a direct port from a Xbox 360 game, so it's only likely it has optimizations for ATI's hardware built-in.

This is incredible............but the GX2 from nVidia is showing a similar trend.

It's because the game doesn't have a profile included in the drivers used for the test, and because the default compatible AFR used by both IHVs tends to suck.

I don't disagree but to say it's embarassing for one IHV to say-the-least considering both are very similar here with dual GPU's -- it's such a one-sided view to say-the-least! hehe!:)

Hey, i didn't say Crossfire is worst than SLI in this game.
As someone said above, the AFR profiles from both IHV's for Mass Effect basically suck.

That's why i focused on the single-GPU comparisons. Not only are they small, as they are also the exception that confirms the rule in practically every other game out there.

What?

When I looked at the 3870x2 -- it didn't scale well............then I looked at the 9800 GX2 to see how this scaled and it didn't scale well, too.

Two possible things may be happening to me:

1) It doesn't scale well.

2) Official profiles haven't been added yet.

This view has nothing to do with a contest between Sli or CrossFire - just your incredible one-sided quote offered with the 3870x2. Also, you jumped to conclusions and tried to spin the advantage the 3870 offered in this title.

either way - waiting for "official profiles" in order to get speed bump is a stopper.
What if someone wants to play a not-s-popular game? Wait eternally?
Vendors either find a way to make dual-cards WORK out-of-the-box or shut this madness off (yea, they won't do that, they will continue to use this cash-cow)

What?

Read my post again clearly.
I said:

a) both IHV's suck on their multi-GPU setups for this game.
b) the game is a port from an ATI-powered game console.

I digress.

8800GTX: $599
2900XT: $399

8800GTS 512MB: $299
8800GT: $249
3870: $219

Whats next? Comparing a $169 9600GT to a $100 3450?

Yeouch?

I dont see you criticizing the GX2, only the X2 ...

No, but i could compare a 100 dollar HD3450 (i think they're cheaper than that) with a 8800 GS/9600 GSO at the same price level, if you'd like...

See here: http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1166842&postcount=1586
I specifically mentioned the bargain that is the 8800 GTS 512MB at current prices.

Yeouch?

I tend to criticize the leader for it's shortcomings.
Sorry if i didn't meet your expectations. :p

This is wholly unacceptable to me. If I want to copy a movie to my iPod, about 1-5 minutes is all I can tolerate. HDTV archives are nice, but this is a niche. There are more people for whom 480p is more important, and there's oodles more portable devices for which that resolution is more suitable.

Copying a DVD straight from the DVD takes more time than 5 minutes. How can you expect the encoding and resizing process to be faster than one of the requisite steps?
