Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 Reviews

Unlaunching The 12GB 4080

The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but it’s not named right. Having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing.

So, we’re pressing the “unlaunch” button on the 4080 12GB. The RTX 4080 16GB is amazing and on track to delight gamers everywhere on November 16th.

Ahaha, who were those defending this piece of crap card? Even NVIDIA realized it was way too much of a scam to work.

Fucking LOL

They should've "unlaunch" 4080 16GB though and rename it to 4080Ti instead.

And launch a 4080 non TI that is barely faster than the outgoing 3080 really? Brings back memories of G80/G92 endless rebranding, but this is a brand new GPU, not even a die shrink. The 4080 12GB is only apt to be called a 4070, as Nvidia seem to have realised.

Yes. The only way this SKU can be a "4070" is if they'll sell it at $600. Which is a 33% price reduction which I don't think is realistic.
Watch them launching it as a 4070Ti at $800 or something now.

Why is that so unrealistic? Do you have privileged access to their finances? Plus $600 is still more than what the RTX3070 MSRP was...

Actually it is more of an 4060Ti and the still remaining 4080 16GB is performing lake a 4070, at least in previous generations the 70-tier delivered 60% of the top-tier performance. 80-tier should be 80% instead.
Costs went up so it's a 4070 and 4080.
Deal with it.

Because they would put it on this price in the first place if it was realistic.
Price is dictated by market forces and what consumers are prepared to pay. What's the point of them unlaunching this SKU to just change the name to 4070 and keeping the price? That won't magically make consumers who buy *70 parts at 500-600, pay 800. You were also the one saying on the thread that was closed down that product names don't matter. The consumer side of the market forces just proved you wrong, forcing Nvidia to do this. Nvidia is a company who naturally tries to extract as much value of it's products as they can, plus they got used with the inflated prices due to crypto. They probably tried to play the game and see if they could extract the same value by playing shenanigans with product naming. Too bad for them that people saw though their bullshit.
