To correct myself, it's actually May 13th for the next call, firstly.

As for the patterns, I don't think they have requirements beyond scheduling them within a timely manner from close of the quarter. Keep in mind though this is year-end as well. 4th quarter (1st quarter calendar) is generally Sony's weakest in isolation, but should be an interesting call/report.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Entertainment & Devices President Robbie Bach have taken to the stage at the Consumer Electronics Show and reported that there are there are now over 39 million Xbox 360 consoles around the world.

Microsoft results for quarter ending Mar 31, 2010:
40.2 million total 360's sold.

NPD January 2010: 332800
NPD February 2010: 422000
NPD March 2010: 338400

NPD Total: 1.093M

So, MS sold only ~100K 360's outside the US?

For the Jan-Feb-March quarter they shipped 1.5m. And even then, shipments cant be exactly correlated to sales as you never know how well the pipeline was stocked before. They may have sold through less or more than 1.5m.

For example, the Oct-Nov-Dec 2009 quarter, MS reported shipments of 5.2m 360, against NPD sales for those three months of just ~2.38m. Are we to believe they sold the remaining ~2.8m mostly in Europe during that quarter? Not really. Perhaps they overstocked.

dont forget the high profit margin segment 'peripherals' which are also included, MS are the second biggest in the world after logitech whom make about $220million profit per quarter
