Nintendo Switch Tech Speculation discussion

I'm just happy it'll play Nintendo games in 1080p, Zelda being the outlier, surely. I'd be shocked if Splatoon and Mario don't run at 1080p in the final versions. Besides artistic and technical choices developers make, image quality is my only concern with graphics today. If only devs were forced to use 16x AF >.>

I'd have to say that gameplay trumps looks as far as I am concerned. Although finally having access to 1080p in some form from Nintendo is relieving.

It's still one source with info from summer time. I'm not saying Eurogamers info is incorrect, I am simply implying that the Fox Conn leak deserves to be placed in the plausible column, and not in the trash. Go look at Snake Pass running on Switch. The in game performance has been impressive so far.

it's not one source, they say they are on touch with multiple sources, they also said Nintendo has briefed developers recently with the same information. we have multiple sources showing the same exact specs, you think if the foxcon leak was legit there would be a developer or developers leaking the info by now.
as for snake pass being impressive, i would say no, it looks good, but the hardware that's easily 3x better then wiiu when factor in cpu, efficiency and ram. that game is pretty much a slow puzzle platformer that just has to look pretty, and the specs in the swtich should be capable of that

Please link these many sources, because I am only hearing Eurogamer. I'm not saying Eurogamer will be wrong, only that they are are a singular source that should be treated as such. This is a prime example of a single source getting blown up to more than it is. Luara I Dale nailed a ton of early rumors, and says improved dev kits went out in October. The Fox conn leaks were accurate to the point where I think her deserve to sit in the plausible column.

Regardless of the actual speeds, Switch performs very well. Developers are giving positive feedback, and the final results are very promising. Snake Pass at 1080p is pretty impressive. Zelda BoTW at 900p is pretty darn impressive considering Assasins Creed 4 only ran at 900p on Xbox One. Switch is performing very well for a console designed under the contrainrs of a portable.

Laura got a lot stuff right and a ton of stuff wrong as well, her credibility is gone. you can say the same for the foxcon leaker got a ton of stuff wrong as well, which why to me it's not in the plausible column, mean while eurogamer has got everything right so far about switch, we can confirm there info is correct based on doc leak from july which was just posted on neogaf a few days ago with a dev confirming it's real as well. they also make everything pretty damn clear, that there talking to multiple developers and are dealing with confirmed info, then you have the foxcon leaker talking about 4g version, 1080p screen, and a switch version with ps4 pro performance, i just can't think why anybody would choose to believe a single person which got a ton off stuff wrong already vs a reliable source like eurogamer which hasn't got anything wrong on switch yet.

Goodtwin you keep calling EG a single source and I think you're getting the concept of single versus multiple sources confused here. EG is a press outlet referencing multiple sources to produce a single report. They had their copy of the dev docs and multiple independent sources verify what they had. The reddit post is quite literally one person and there are no independent sources verifying what they say. This is why EG carries far more weight than the reddit post especially when you combine it with a history of producing reliable reports about future hardware. They don't value being first to publish and often have acted as verification when others have run first (as with PS4 Pro).

Yup. Also my girlfriend made me see your movie and I didn't really like it so please don't do that again. :nope: Addendum also the Switch is out next week!! So excited, I love new hardware and this has nothing to do with the hardware's technical prowess.

Honestly snake pass looks bad. Yooka Laylee, on the other hand...

I remember watching Wii U footage of that game and was impressed the Wii U could run that, given the budget and small development team. Now I wonder if it was ever running on Wii U to begin with.

Seems like its just using a second revision of the Tegra X1 going by the "A2" revision designator, in a different package.
I wonder what makes you say that? Do you have any information that we don't? Even it it does use X1 as basis, it might or might not have any number of changes. So until we have a die shot we simply cannot know. Or did you get a good look at the die from looking at the photos using your x-ray eyes?

Is die smaller than X1? Did they cut out A53 or left them?

Tegra X1 on Jetson TX1 board for comparison.

If RAM same size, by very rough estimate die size looks same.

Common sense and Nintendo being Nintendo. What makes anyone proclaim that it's completely custom when they have 0 knowledge. Wake up and stop dreaming.

Never said anything about completely custom. In fact we can be pretty sure it's based on the Tegra X1 A2 revision (see http://imgur.com/uLF2CUq). But I don't think they are exactly the same chip. The interesting thing is where do they differ? Maybe just some custom hardware DRM for Nintendo? Maybe some other customizations/optimizations?

So it looks like 64-bit bus, no edram, probably not big enough for a big chunk of esram.

So basically what the leaks said, but I think there have still got to be a few crushed dreams out there on the interwebs.

The Fox Con leaks have only gained credibility, the guy nailed the battery size, colored joy cons, L shaped header pipe. The guy had certainly seen the Switch in production. The problem is people were taking the leakers speculation as fact. We had a lot of lost in translation issues.

Laura K Dale also had enough details correct to not be outright dismissed. Sure, she has some bad info, but she also nailed a lot of things.

Eurogamer has been the most reliable, but they are also very careful to not report on anything they aren't fully confident in. I'm not discrediting Eurogamer, but I have not seen them report anything saying a clock speed boost was not done in October. Eurogamer hasn't always been accurate, remember when the 3DS was going to use a Tegra processor? They reported that it would, and obviously didnt. When it comes to leaks, they never all pan out, but some of them do.
