Nintendo Conference

The price tag though is what will prohibit expanding the Vita to WiiU uses

Exactly ! Many people thought the set up is expensive, but if Nintendo can solve that problem... it's actually a barrier of entry and a strong differentiator... even compared to Apple's stuff.

I'm sorry but did you actually pay any attention? It's obvious that there is a whole new console behind all this, they just didnt announce it because just as with wii, its all about the controller. Just showing a new box and telling everybody its ''uber fast'' isnt going to do anything. Anyway, they showed a whole bunch of videos and from what I could tell it looked like pc versions of those games so no way it's just a souped up wii with a hdmi connector. As those games are just ports/early versions I'm pretty sure the new system is quite a bit more powerfull that ps360.

Something I'm more interrested in though is controller battery life & price. It certainly doesn't look like your average 50 dollar controller (even if in reality it probably doesnt even take 10 bucks to build a normal controller)

Yes I payed attention. I was perplexed that they didnt mention it at all.

It's a controller for Wii? Or have we got another announcement to look forwards to? Basically Wii U is a fusion tablet controller. It's a mixed idea. The end result is too multi-personality-disorder for my tastes. I'd rather use something classy like a Galaxy Tab for some of the stuff shown. And some of the other stuff is contrary to the original Wii idea. Aiming with a screen and pushing a button to throw a ball is more intuitive than virtually throwing with the Wiimote? I expect Nintendo to produce some good crossover content, but I don't see the value of this beyond extending the Wii experience. Although in that respect it looks very usable, what Sony should have been doing, and also ironic considering Nintendo kept saying they were only about games!

Huh.. I don't get it...

The graphics they showed with the bird flying didn't look that much better than the current Wii graphics. The water effect wasn't great, they were using alpha to coverage on the tree, looked like no AA.

Sorry but this actually deserves a

And I don't give those out lightly.

Did the footage actually run on the new controller? Is it possible the controller has more processing power than Wii, on par with PS Vita.
That would not seem likely though, unless it's possible to run the same games on the base console with lower specs and better on the controller/console.
The bird demo did look better than what is capabnle on Wii, but at the same time it looked suspisciously low-res and had a lot of shimmering and pop-in. You can see the fence pop in by the road as the bird zooms down.

The Darksiders footage also looked like it was very low poly.

Ha ha... perhaps it's based on OnLive-style tech for HD games ? It will change the business model and perhaps even lower game price. ^_^

At the end of the day, graphics is just eye candy. They don't need raw power if they don't want to explore high end concepts like Eyedentity, Magic Mirror Sony presented at PS3 launch.

1 - There is a new console called Wii-u:

2 - There is a new controller:
201106073500.jpg

It has:
- 6.2" touchscreen (single-touch afaik)
- dual analog controls, d-pad, 4 buttons and 4 shoulder buttons
- front and back facing cameras
- accelerometer and gyroscope
- stereo speakers
- 3.5mm stereo jack (not seen but described through a developer comment)

3 - Wii-u console is able to do graphics that look way better than anything I've seen in X360 or PS3, at least from what I've seen in the bird&pond video, even more if it's being done in 1080p

4 - Wii-u uses Wiimotes, nunchucks, Wii balance boards, etc

5 - Backwards-compatibility with Wii titles.

6 - Four-player-per-console limit has been raised:

In a post-presentation demo on nintendo site I saw examples of a 3D game being rendered full on a HDTV with 4-player split-screen while a 5th player joined the game with the new controller, and the new controller had 3D game rendering too.

A few minutes ago on e3.nintendo.com they had a demo of the WiiU being used but it was just with a regular Wii. So I guess it can be used with the current Wii console and with it's successor.

Did they say anything about the size of the next console?
Has the wii what it takes to feed the controller? Isn't it only Wifi G? Does it even has the power to encode and stream anything while doing the rendering?

Beginning to think I'm in the twightlight zone here.. Again it was said several times that everything shown on the controller is generated on the console and streamed to the controller.

Obviously its not a controller for Wii, the controller is simply all that was shown, they said its merely a receiver for what's produced by the console. Unless you think Wii's been hiding some serious power all these years its clearly a new console.

Not everyone was watching the conference from beginning to end and saw the whole thing. Some of us are just getting bits of info, and as I said, in the clip I saw where the Wii U was introduced, I saw a controller showing Wii graphics and nothing else. Websites haven't yet caught up with the news stories, although now ToTTenTranz has explained all, there's no need for confusion or frustration with the confused. ;)

Watch the damn conference now!!

:)

I hope we get direct feed to the tech demos soon. It was hard to tell how good the graphics are from a blurry stream.
Indeed. The stream on Gametrailer was awful at home. Damned I would I preferred sound only.

Once again N strikes, not a hint at spec which qualifies instantly for me as suspect.
