Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata to attend TGS 2005

Although Nintendo won't make an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show 2005 (16 - 18 September), Satoru Iwata will be present according to Famitsu to give a presentation/keynote about 'the present and the future of the games industry', and to discuss the companies current and future strategies.

Nintendo Revolution's controller would be revealed somewhere at the end of this year, so there's a chance this will happen during Iwata's industry keynote.

Thoughts?

Yeah my thought is show the damn controller already. I respect these guys but what is so special about this controller?

They never have so it's hardly a surprise.

Really? Hmm...

They chose to do special Nintendo city tours each year to promote their products in Japan, instead of attending TGS. They stopped Spaceworld in 2001, it was too costly IIRC.

Also, it isn't unusual for companies such as Konami and Square-Enix to skip TGS for a year or so.

I don´t remember SE or Konami ever skipping TGS....are you sure of this??

Once again Nintendo seperates itself from the competiton. I can't see why Nintendo still decides to make this "We will do whatever the competition is not doing" thought. HELLO Nintendo you are losing marketshare in both the console sector and handheld sector too.

Get on the ball!! :devilish:

My apologies, it was not Square-Enix, but Square and Enix (seperately) skipping TGS (before their merger). Squaresoft did in 2000, Enix in 2001. Also, I seem to have confused Konami with Sega, which skipped the event in 2000 and 2001, sorry.

Just trying to illustrate the fact that Nintendo hasn't been the only one to skip TGS, although I don't deny the fact that Nintendo is really 'avoiding' the event. I think they just want to have seperate spotlights. ;)

Third-party Nintendo titles are on show at TGS though.

I think Iwata was present last year as well... I'll look it up.

Edit: Iwata has been present since 2003. Last year all the Japanese Nintendo DS details were revealed, along with a few other news tibits, so I reckon we might see Iwata demonstrating the controller, with or without a game. I think we could say Nintendo is attending TGS through that keynote, along with all of the Nintendo third party support.

This summer is a big symbolic summer for Nintendo since it's Mario's 20th anniversary (or something like that) I think, so a lot of speculation is out there that this summer - and possibly this speech - will serve as the beginning of the thaw as far as Revolution information goes.

Anyway at Mckmas - there's nothing strange or outlandish about Nintendo not formally attending TGS; what would be strange is if they did attend!

EDIT: Actually September 13th is the rumored date... who knows.

Well I was talking about the public image. As of late Nintendo has seemed to go against alot that MS and Sony have been doing that's all.

Well, usually Square or Enix misses TGS only if they have their own big show, otherwise you´d be hard pressed to find an important publisher that isn´t present.

And yeah, Nintendo isn´t there just ´cause it´s an attention whore. :p

I think we'll get tech specs, with some tech demo's, with a dash game announcements.

I doub they'll reveal system specifications before E3 2006. Maybe, just maybe a few tech-demo's to demonstrate the controller concept, or some small announcements, but somehow I doub that as Nintendo wants to keep its concept a secret as long as possible to avoid any 'theft'.

How does doing the same thing everyone else is doing guarantee more marketshare?

Even doing different things than everyone else does doesn't guarantee marketshare.

In fact, market share has sometimes very little with what the companies DO.

There's know need to keep something like Mhz,Gbps,Ghz, and MB a secret, we know what MS and Sony has.

There is these days. So many people read and talk on forums today compared to the last generation start. If Nintendo talked about lower GHz, MBs, and floating points; a lot of people will consider them the automatic loser.

I disagree, the Revolution's Cpu architecture & chipsets will still be very powerful & capable of duplicating primarily all these effects you all have salivating over recently for the PS3/360. Especially if (unfortunately) they maintain the much less bw intensive 480p. Nintendo usually gives out realistic software in-game degraded numbers, not unattainable hypothetical ones like MS & Sony like to issue. (& even then they're conservative)

But people do assume platform weaknesses when they only have cursory technical knowledge to begin with. The larger the number the better, which of course we know is not always the case.
