Hot on the heels of the $50 price cut, Microsoft confirmed that its $349 Xbox 360 console now includes an HDMI port, suggesting it could be the much-anticipated 65nm "Falcon" revision.

Lot of speculation RE the Core in there.

Somebody needs to crack one of these HDMI systems open ASAP to see about 65nm.

MS gets more publicity out of this endless 65nm/not65nm/hdmi/notHdmi/multiplesku/gettingridofthecore/notgettingridofthecore/doesithavethenewheatsink/blahblahblah than the law should allow.

Has anybody found a side by side component vs. HDMI, 360 comparison?

if you are speaking of image quality then that is completely subjective based on each persons set up.

My Samsung DLP for example looks far better over component.

if you're talking hardware... see Todd above. :)

My friend, there is something wrong with your television's HDMI, I am sorry to say. This is not uncommon problem and many televisions and cable receivers have problems with HDMI.

My experience so far is that HDMI looks heaps better (PS3).

An important point that I haven't seen discussed yet is the pricing of HDMI (with HDCP). Is that still estimated at around $50? I thought that licencing costs were a significant factor in that, so it may still be expensive. If so, it could have affected the 360's pricedrop.

Can't remember exactly how much it is, but the HDMI fee is quite small... shouldn't be a factor.

I'm just asking because it has been $50 originally, one of the reasons for MS to stay out of it originally I think, and so I'm interested to see how much it has dropped. This would then also factor in calculations of how much the PS3 costs to make these days. It also would indicate that the Core won't get it any time soon.

Well if you eliminate all variables it could be worth a look.
Same TV,same console, same game at exactly the same point the only difference being the connection.

So optical audio out on these new Premium HDMI 360's is not available for now? :???: Seems like quite an oversight to handicap the systems full capabilities.

royalities related to hdmi are relatively cheap something like 15 cents a units with a discount if you include hdcp and a $10,000 annual fee.

I have no idea when it comes to hdmi component cost or any licensing fees associated with them.

I think there are some dongles on e-bay if people want to go that route for now.

Doesn't the component cable have the optical out, can you plug it in and use it only for audio?

i know that but that would look too stupid. for other reasons i still can't choose between elite and premium if i am buying one. the price difference is small, i don't feel i will get much use of 120GB, but i prefer black... seems solution is to wait for black hdmi premiums
