damn "1337" posters.

these numbers are nice and all, and i'm not challenging the accuracy of them in any way (they look pretty spot on to me), but there's a disturbing lack of information surrounding them. no region (assuming japan), no linked sources, and no year to date totals on the software.

you give an arm...

those numbers are posted everywhere.
off course it's japan. how do you expect sony sells 40+k psps a week?

Sony made a fantastic move, at least so far, by releasing PSP. I didn´t expect to see it sell on the same quantity as PS2. Not only are PS2´s numbers constant, but Sony managed to enter another market with a product that sells just as many units.

This is sort of weird and possibly disturbing, the cheaper and more well-known Nintendo handheld being outsold by such a big margin by the bigger and all-new Sony product. Has PSP catched up to DS in sales already? I see there's only 05 sales mentioned, but the initial 04 gap can't have been 100k+ units, right?

It also seems as if those units they're now so greedily gobbling up in Japan are those that SHOULD have been released here in Europe... :(

No. NDS had a big dash in the holiday season while PSP was scarce.
DS = 1.9 million
PSP = 1.0 million

To catch up, it'll require 1 year. BTW the sales of GBASP are dropping severely .

It figures SP would drop sharply once something better has been released. I'm just glad I got my SP NES edition, I'm such a geek for old nostalgia stuff. :)

Anyway, I had no idea the gap was as big between PSP and DS, that's amazing they sold so many so quickly. That there's still many hundreds of thousands separating the two means Nintendo has some time to fix their problems, but not THAT much time. Unless they have some neato games lined up already they might take it on the chin in the portable market too. :(

I reeeeally hope Nintendo is planning some badass hardware for Revolution AND that they'll go for comprehensive 3rd party support for mature titles for real this time rather than the lame lip-service they've given us customers for the last two generations.
