Looks great but they really light up the characters and the water while making the mountains dark.

Almost like there's a spotlight on the characters and the water and it's dusk everywhere else.

Shouldn't the HDR show more gradations between dark and bright?
Yeah I prefer pics that shows shadows to those with overexposure.
But an older scene with a massive army had very plain lighting, I hope it's sorted out.

It depends entirely onou choose to resolve the HDR to screen. The artist(s) can choose the look, changing brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, etc. The lighting on this pic is pretty realistic

Great scenery, and nice to see some different areas with far richer content. But...where's my army?!?

Why are the screenies so small?

I tell you a secret but dont spread it out...

>The< use of small screenshots is, unless reason (800x600 users or web page layout) becouse >they< (could be anyone, fan, fansite or dev) make the graphics look >much better< ( small images hide flaws and overapplied image sharpening isn't as noticable as in higher res ss),
than if they where 800x600 res or their true size 1280x720 which means much better looking graphics (depends on the downsized ss size vs the full res one) than it has in reality on your monitor/TV.
Also image sharpening is used frequently to make it look like textures are more high-res and simulate AF.

But remember it is a secret shhhhh... ;) <---- :D

Are you insane? That's quite a rude thing to say. You can find lots of hi-res photos of Heavenly Sword. But this stupid tech site has downsized them. Sheesh

That is ignorant from youre part. First this site allows images of the maximum size 800x600, second thoose images posted above are very small in size and there is no link to the originals (if they are higher res).
Perhaps you should learn to read a post and then read to what that poster was responding to and follow the trail to the beginning instead of almost insulting others for no valid reason! ;)

Note: You know that thoose images posted above (the very small ones) are separate and not one huge , right? -look at the image size and name for each one, period.

They're so small because they come from an obscure tech website based in India whose content is designed to be viewed in 800x600, not a gaming site.

Well where they come from or if the devs or others downsized them mathers little. The are still to small, and as we know small images that are of a downscaled high-res image looks by far better than the high-res ones.
I sincerly dont see how 450x253 res images can be used to judge graphics fidelity in a game except for artwork and this is a tech site as deepbrown said!

Regardless, it's a pretty daft thing to say the reason they are small images is to improve the look of the game. The reason they're small images is because the website that hosted them wanted them small, presumably to fit their layout - they're small to fit a design, rather than to mislead people into thinking the game has better IQ than it really does as you suggested.

I know the images are small...they come FROM a tech site. They are all very small, but your inference was that when seen big the graphics dont look that good, and only do in small images....which to me sounds a bit insulting.

"They use small screenshots becouse they make the graphics look much better than if they where 800x600 res or their true size 1280x720 which means much better looking graphics than it has in reality on your monitor/TV."

Is there any other way to read that? "They" - I doubt that refers to the tech site doing the preview as they have no vested interest to make the graphics look "better"....so it must be referring to Ninja Theory who have for some reason given out small screenshots to make it look better than it actually is....IS there any other way to read that? Unless you are being incredibly sarcastic: If you were, you forgot to use your sarcasm font.

Especially from a company who have provided plenty of high-res images for everyone to oggle at....and in my view bigger screens look better as you can see the detail which is lost in these small images. And referring to Naughty Dog below, who have also provided big screenshots. What you find when there are these small images, is that a week later the hi-res ones appear. Your insinuations are very odd. They may well look better to you, but inferring that was a deliberate "consiparacy" from the devs is....insulting.

But they still look much better than the 1280x720 screenshots right and which ss are closer to the real deal, the 450x253 ones or the 1280x720 ones?

This isn't an uncommon phenomena, you can find the same in many other threads, MS, Lair, Uncharted and more, you mean thoose also come from "an obscure" site which is made for 800x600 users and therefore the ss are so small?

Well you said yourself that there are plenty of full-size ss of HS (1280x720). Now compare the small 450x253 ss to the big ones. And I haven't said the big ones are bad!

They could refer to either the origin site, users or the devs. I could have written it clearer but of course I wasn't accusing Ninja Theory for the small images as there was and is no link from the user that posted those images to the orignal source of the ss. So then how could I know who resized them?

you still sound insane to me. The only possibility left is that you are inferring the user was resizing the images to make HS look really good...still sounding fishy.;)

Well becouse there was no link with the ss I could not know the true reasons for the resizing of the ss. But I know now that it is becouse the site hosting them is made for 800x600 (screen resolution) users. Still images resized to small size does look better than the full-size one, especially if the difference is 450x253 <-- 1280x720.

And as you said there are plenty of full-size images of HS but then why are these small (practically same images are available in 1280x720) posted here if most users are using higher than 800x600 res for their monitor/TV...!!!

Now where is the link to this 'specal' site?

I like how everybody jumped nebula here.

Generally speaking, its common knowledge that developers\PR department either downsamples or add's AA to screenshots in order to get higher IQ.

Generally speaking on B3D, this fact is usually only accepted in X360 games threads, weras if you comment on bullshot AA in a hyped PS3 game, you get flamed.
