I played for 3 hours last night when my original intention was to stop on two occasions. Then I thought, just one more agility orb. Then I kept playing and killed one of the bosses. This game is pure fun. I'm already thinking about playing it right now
Finally got the rocket launcher last night, I got bored with messin with the Los Meurtos guys so I headed over to the Volk island and took out their recruiter.
Damn this game is so hard on Pyschotic, I think I'm gonna bump it down to Ruthless. The boss battle was so hard, I had 3*'s strength and couldn't beat him to death, his health refills very quickly, and after you knock him down he just stands up and starts spraying me with his machine gun, which will shred me and all 3 of my health bars in abou 4 seconds. Like 6 times I had to run out of the room and reecharge shields, which lets him fill up to max health everytime.
FInally, I wised up and shot his maching gun out of his hand, and then it wasn't too bad, he couldn't do too much damage with the pistol.
Damn though, if that was a mid-level boss battle I think this game will get too frustrating on Psychotic, hopefully ruthless is still challenging but not quite so insane.
One great featre about the game is how you can choose your difficulty level anytime when beginning the game, and choose a different character each time. It's cool watching the characters transform as you level them up.
Problems -
- Hand to hand combat controls are horrible. Horrible, horrible horrible. I hat standing over some guy, and trying 5 times to stomp on him, all the while getting completely blasted by other baddies. If you try to trigger someone it's very glitchy and constantly 'loses' the lock on, if you don't trigger, alot of times he misses the target when stomping.
This should be WAY more polished...not to mention how about a jumpkick?? Seriously, how did they miss that?
A great addition to this game would be super moves, for example it would be cool if I could leap up, slam into the ground, and knock everyone down in a 10metre radius. But I would settle for just a solid fighting system that actually felt as if they spent more than a week polishing it.
Now you're talking about Crackdown 2!
Thanks for the impressions, I am still on the fence about this one. It seems very fun and yet lacking somewhat in depth.

I felt the same. Buy it NOW!
Seriously it is one of the best games on 360 right now. Top 5 easy.
Hopefully you can still pick it up with the Halo3 beta as icing on the cake too.
Seconded. If your on the fence, there are too many positives for this game to prevent you from not getting it.
My understanding was ALL copies would have the Halo 3 beta invite and not just the initial run? Is this incorrect?
"But there's a problem. And that's that when you get too strong, too agile and too built-up, things really start to tilt too much in your favour, to the severe detriment of Crackdown's long term challenge." – IT Reviews
I'm sorry. But at this point in the review I have to disagree. What makes Crackdown easier isn't that your character continues to evolve but that his tactics begin to stagnate. The transition from the Volks to Shai Gen does not require the same tactical shift that's necessary when moving from Los Muertos to the Volks.
The change in difficulty comes as soon as you pick up a rocket launcher imo.
I have to say, I bought this game last week and while it's good it could have been so much more...
The game's virtues have been gone over enough times in this thread already, and I agree that it is a great game. That said, the following would have made it an all time great:
- A more robust close combat system... here you are, this superhuman killing machine and all you can do is one of two kicks or a hit with a gun. I would like more variation on that front... maybe even simple combo's and the like.... even picking them straight up, while they are still alive and attacking you, and hurling them into their friends. While I mention the picking up/throwing items side of combat, why can't I pick the car up by the front and swing it around in a swathe of death, or beat someone over the head with that car door rather than just throwing them.... It just feels like I have all these great abilities and yet am incredibly limited in how I can actually use them.
- More mission variety.. to me the "kill x many underlings then take on big boss" feels very wash, rinse, repeat... It would have been good to have a different mission structure to keep things feeling more fresh.
- This is not so much a complaint as it is a wish for the future... I still end up wishing I could go inside more buildings. it'd add so much for me if say after getting a kicking from a ton of baddies I could just turn around and boot down a random door fleeing inside for saftey, run through a family home while they are sitting having breakfast in the kitchen and come flying out the window on the other side of the building... I know that's probably more of a time and technical limitation and it's not something I mark the game down for but this is "next gen" and I really do hope for interaction on that sort of level from these sandbox type games.
- More variety of vehicles - mainly motorbikes, maybe even a helicopter - imagine jumping from the top of a sky scraper and catching onto the landing rail of a heli, flipping up into the heli and booting out the pilot. Some might say flying vehicles would ruin the building top to building top dynamic of the game though and i could understand that so it's not a big point for me. More co-op oriented vehicles would have been awesome too... I'm thinking along the lines of a humvee style car with a 50cal or rocket launcher in the roof and so forth.
- co-op; why oh why did they not make it possible for your co-op chum to shoot out of the car while you are driving along. That just seems stupid to me! Instead you have to find a pickup and get your friend to stand on the back, which while it provides amusment should be in addition to rather than instead of.
There are a few other little things here and there like bugs with the sound (voice starts off quiet then comes to normal volume) or the commentator guy just saying completely irrelevant stuff... but that stuff doesn't really detract from the game too much for me.
For me though this game merely goes into the "really good" category rather than the hall of greatness... shame, because it wasn't far off.
Also helicopters, and helicopter boss fights would've been great, also highspeed water and motorcycle races/chases, and more side missions.
This engine has alot of potential, hopefully they churn out Crackdown 2 fairly soon with alot of improvements.
scooby_dooby & rusty said:...they should've ...
I wonder if they can do it via DLC? The game is all kinds of fun in co-op. Almost got 4 stars for all my skills. Missing Explosives and Driving. How do two ppl get into one car in co-op? Everytime we try it via pressing Y the character pulls the driver out of the vehicle.
