[Multiplat] Battlefield 3

I'm kinda surprised DICE is so quite about 360 version, just PC and PS3,no mention of MS console.I read they are just going to present PS3 talks at SIGGRAPH and 360 one was canceled, even though it was to be just month ago.Anyone knows more on the subject?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a strategic decision. CoD is the main competition and it's heavily associated with the 360.

CoD is VERY popular on the PS3 also but with timed exclusive DLC and the co promotions Activision does with MS, there is a strong association between the 360 and CoD.

Instead of focusing on the 360 and being another shooter fighting between Halo and CoD, they can have *THE* shooter on the PS3. They know the 360 owners will buy it anyway but if they can get the PS3 user base to response to BF3 like 360 users did with CoD4 and onwards, then it's a gold mine.

I think it's a good strategy.

Honestly,I don't think that's the reason. They are showing of NFS:Run on PS3 too,no 360.Now they scraped SIGGRAPH talk about deferred shading technique on 360...They also said 360 version was not ready to be shown at E3 so I think that 360 version will be lacking based on information we got.

NFS:Run vs Forza 4. I'd be focusing on the PS3 version also.

My personal opinion is this. If I was a multi platform developer coming out with a gametype that had a strong IP following on Console A, I'd be putting my efforts into aligning myself with Console B. The reasoning is simple. The genre of my game has proven to be a hit on Console At thus if I make a good enough game, it'll sell itself. Instead of focusing on dethroning the "king" on Console A, what I need to focus on is making my game the leader for this specific genre on Console B. This not only increases my sales but makes my game *the* game to have on at least one of the consoles. The hope then is to have such a strong presence on Console B that word of mouth and buzz now pushes even more sales on Console A and gives the "king" a run for it's money.

Maybe one of these years that hope will become a reality.

Robert's explanation sounds more plausible. 360 owners are gonna buy it regardless, so might as well generate hype on the other platform.

I would hope both consoles would look roughly the same, with same amount of "care" put in both of them its just that I'm not seeing it.Not because they aren't showing 360 version, because there is no word how are they running FB2 on 360 but alot of talks about PC and PS3 side.

Roberts explanation is plausible, but you think regular joe cares what console they shown game on?I don't think so.I think pushing one console would be the case like marketing it similar to how COD games are marketed.360 became synonymous for COD,not because they show that version in press or on internet its because they use it for marketing.

Of course, thats just my opinion, from what I have seen.

Too early to tell. They are working on the 360 version as we speak. Supposed to present @ SigGraph in August/September ? We should know more by then.

September we should know more unless they fuck up the beta like medal of honor.
Just hope the 360 version looks okey because friends are playing on it.

But this game have some of my more it oriented friends make a new gaming rig to play this so im double dipping.

I don't get it...you're talking about Dice's decision to promote the game more on the PS3 side for whatever reasons when both BC games have sold better on the 360 - as you already said the 360 audience will buy the game...and that means what? because they know that the 360 owners will buy the game is it ok to not have any info about this version or get away with a rushed/unoptimized port just like Valve with Portal 2 did? I am not saying that BF3 will be rushed but definitely all the signs about Frostbite 2.0 on 360 in general are not the best.

Having no information on the 360 version at this point is quite suspect as we've seen many times versions of a game that were not shown pre-realease at all turning out vastly inferior (Blops, RDR e.t.c.).

And if a PS3-focused promotion/marketing plan like this from EA is the actual reason about why Dice keeps talking only about the PS3 version and continues all this secrecy about the 360 version then why a scheduled strictly tech talk about the 360 version of Frostbite 2.0/BF3 that the average gamer will not even know or care about is being scraped? as Ruskie already said that's definitely not a good sign for the 360 version of BF3 and maybe even Frostbite 2.0 as an engine on the 360 in general...let's see if Dice will (hopefully) prove us wrong.

Yeah that's my issue on this. I wouldn't mind getting the ps3 version if the 360 SKU turned out sub-par, but all of my friends will be getting it on the 360. :???:

Was going to post a similar point. SIGGRAPH is not E3, the average console gamer (360 or ps3) that plays CoD or BF do not know nor care about SIGGRAPH. I understand that Robert's explanation sounds plausible, but it still doesn't make any marketing sense. Again, if we were talking about E3 with all the press coverage, sure I can see that point, but SIGGRAPH is unlikely to see a fraction of that coverage and even fewer of the targeted audience will even know.

I'm with the camp thinking that this isn't good in regards to the 360 version. Shame too since I found the presentations on the ps3 version very fascinating and was curious to see how they tackled similar issues on the 360.

We still have a couple of big game events going.
I believe Gamescom is even bigger then E3 in space and numbers but coverage E3 is still best.
Dont expect a lot from TGS maybe we know more at pax main(?) is that in august too?

I suspect we won't see the 360 version until the last minute beta.

Hmm... they pulled the SIGGRAPH talk. I guess we will have to wait for the September beta. Probably in crunch mode now.
Have some faith

Unless I'm mistaken, they replaced the 360 talk with more ps3 talk. If the problem was crunch mode, you would think it would effect their ability to talk about either version, no? What little that has been revealed on the console versions hasn't really given us much reason to be hopeful IMO.

Do you have a link to the official info ? Would like to know what else they are going to talk about.

Coming from someone who gets his demo working (or compiling ) 5 minutes before the presentation, I naturally feel more optimistic about DICE than most people. repi is pretty excited about the 360 renderer. I shall give him the benefit of doubt. Shit happens sometimes, but I think the underlying tech concept should be sound.

No I don't have any official links, I'm pretty limited to what I can access at work, just going off of this quote from Ruskie:

I read they are just going to present PS3 talks at SIGGRAPH and 360 one was canceled

I have no problem giving Dice the benefit of the doubt, I know they are talented and don't think they would slack off on either version. It's just the OCD in me makes it hard not knowing how the version I'm stuck with is turning out.

Out of curiosity, what demo did you get working 5 minutes before the presentation?

Considering that the 360 versions of BC2 have sold better on the 360 then on the PS3, I see no reason why DICE would try to screw over its 360 fanbase with a subpar version of BF3.From what I've read, Repi is happy wiith how the game is turning out on the 360 and im confident it will be just as good as the PS3 version..

Just hope this isn't a crysis 2 ps3 fiasco.
Saying good things about it but being really under performing.

They haven't said anything about the 360 game other than they have an alternate renderer for the system. ^_^

The Crysis CEO claimed they have the best looking game on all platforms. Future games will just be minor tweaks. I am glad they were wrong.
