Muhahahaha...Ghost Recon 3 footage.

I just re-watched both trailers - IMO almost everything in GR3, from character animation to lighting looks a step above GOW.

The texture detail, world geometry and lighting in Ghost Recon seems to be an order of magnitude beyond what I could discern from (admittedly static) Quake Wars screenshots.

Quake Wars uses the D3 engine which will have lower poly models due to the shadowing technique and the lighting in D3 is GREAT for corridore shooters but we have yet to see how well it does in big open areas for nice soft shadows and other effects.

Not sure comparing the D3 technology (which was really designed around DX8 cards to a degree) is a fair comparison. For example, wathing the GOW video, they have a ton more detail in the environment.

GOW has more detail in the enviroment then GR3?

In some scenes yes. If you look at the screenshots at IGN you will notice some of them in the trailer. Specifically they are walking by some ruins (like some broken angel statue) and the ruble and buildings have a lot of detail.

From what I saw in GR3 it looks nice but low poly. e.g. When they are shooting through the concrete wall--very square there. The crass across the broken down plaza where the tank comes from is just tiles and looks bad and flat. Like they painted a green texture there.

What I am seeing in GR3 is good lighting/shadowing, excellent animation, and good art direction. The palette is pretty simple. It could be CGI with game assets, but seeing as UT2007 and GOW are both realtime it is not hard to believe that something like this is at least possible.

Maybe you are right. I am just having hard time reconciling GR3 video with the facts that A)People didn't have anything other then alpha kits until very recently and B) The games shown to public running on the said kits looked average and "chugged".

Maybe they're using the same approach as Deano's team did with Heavenly Sword?

actually alot of games weren't chugging . Most were playing around 20-40fps on alpha hardware .

I'm told though that full auto is running at 60fps locked

Quick question, alot of the 260 threads are being locked. Well, The folks who strted them did seem delusional. Like the long threads about RE4 for PS2 looking sooooooooooooooooo crappy compared to teh Cube, which by the way i still play the heck out of, and will be buying for PS2. then there is the PS2 and no normal mapping, yada yada. Is killzone real or not. Come on people, 2-3 of the guys on here actually program, and THEY were wrong about alot of stuff. And this eDRAM, well, SOny still has time, and graphic whores X-block fanboys are just going crazy with dellusions, priceless. Unless the 360 by some amazing mumford trick manages to be more powerful(snickers). Im getting TWO PS3's and an HDTV.
Be cool X-blockers, I love the X-box, cause without it, this next gen wars would be bland. And that is teh truth. I saved alot of info on all systems, and like I said on a previous thread, Ken needed his arrogant ass spanked. Getting all Nintendo-like.

SO hey, whatever system you get, we all win. I will be saving 360 pics and tech info to try to get up to speed like some of you cats. BUt I keep in mind, all the tech jargon, OBVIOUSLY does NOT mean you know as much as the stuff you are spewing. Cause many of you cats, as well as the programming guys, were WRONG about alot of things. So take advice with a grain of salt people

Peace

PS.... To all SOny affectiados, don't let the wolves pied-piper you asses into ignorance(True Crime 2). And 360 will contend with PS2 games with graphics thet it was not supposed to do. YAY!!!!

o_O

LOL @ affectiados :devilish:

As I said in the other thread, it should be clear by now that this movie is a CG rendering, and not "in-eigine scripted scene" or anything of that sort.

hah ;)

btw, Todd Holmdahl confirmed that the alpha development kits have a 2 CPU POWERPC setup and not a 2core 1cpu (like in 2cores but waiting for the third one in the final build of the dev kit)

so does this mean the dual POWERPC setup is rougly the same in calculational power to a x360 3core powervariant ?

(if it is already discussed .... )

I don't think the alpha kits are 30% of the real power because of only a missing GPU. The CPU has to be a factor as well. I'm sure it compares favorably to 2 (what are they... 2.0 ghz?) G5 CPUs.
