WTF was that?

I just saw the mtv special here in europe(switzerland). 30min. but max 30seconds content related to xbox or games.

This was ridiculous, absolut pathetic. They didn't even show one game nothing.

This was a joke alright, if they had told me it wasn't about Xbox 360 in the first place, I wouldn't have watched at all, this was just a waste of time.

Xbox 360, worst planned and executed product unveilment ever?

One day, you guys will understand to whom this was targeted to. OF course thats why you guys dont work in marketing.

Heh, I work in marketing, and yeah, I understand that I shouldn't have expected any more from this special given that it was on MTV, but still...

It was just so very sad. :?

Sure, it's a way to reach beyond the hardcore gamers and Xbox faithful, toward that mass-market audience that Sony has such a firm grip on, but really, they may have actually done themselves harm by showing clips of some of those unfinished games...

We'll see. It was a gamble, and maybe it will pay off. I just personally hated the execution.

Marketing? Target audience?

Xbox 360 was shown for less than 10 seconds amidst a crowd with screaming people, American style (yay...), and you got to see some people playing an uninteresting looking game for around 10 seconds...

They had better played regular music clips, wouldn't have made any difference. I don't think the target audience that looked got the message. And the real target audience is the hardcore gamer at this moment, and they didn't like this show, that's for sure.

Hopefully no celebrities at E3 and just the games. Oh yeah, wishfull thinking...

I guess they underestimate intelegence of Europeans :?
Oh, yeah, I didn't watch it (luckily), I torrented it, flew through the avi (with slider) and deleted it. A dissapointment.

sounds like the usa and the europe one was a diffrent special . There was actually more to it than people just standing around in the usa . Not to much more but they showed the unit , they showed prototypes , they showed the live menus talked bout it , showed clips of games . Wasn't that bad and the style of the usa one fit the mtv market

The European version was different and much worse than the US one. I saw the Scandinavian version which was probably the same as UK. It didnt' show any game footage!, I mean Zero there was no Pimp My ride guys no Xbox Live guys, instead we saw 3 songs from Killers and 2 songs from Project Snowblind and nothing else!. It was 10X worse than the US version which sucked too.

It felt like they shortened the whole thing, cutting out everything usefull, way to go MTV!

Game consoles make most of their money on the 18-35 demographic, especially a more adult system like the Xbox. This MTV show did not hit the target demographic.

In fact, kids aren't that stupid. Go to the G4-techtv forums and you will see lots of teenagers complaining about how G4 dumbed down many of the techtv shows with "extreme" nonsense and sillyness.

this show was TERRIBLY produced for something that is supposed to generate initial interest.

ugh i do miss the old screen savers

Did you ever see the original Extended Play with Adam Sessler doing solo-reviews before it became X-Play? Adam's reviews were filled with high-brow hilarious humor. The show's been dumbed down alot after Morgan von Vebb got added.

yea it was good stuff . The whole channel went down hill , i just watch that one g4tv show cause that one girl is hot . other than that i put it on when i'm bored .

I hate those two guys giving reviews .

I havent even watched it, watched the ourcolony one though ... slick infomercial light on the info, but it was short and seeing the developers try to not show how uncomfortable they were with the camera and the platitudes they had to recite had some entertainment value too.

I didn't see it and I'm kinda glad I didn't after hearing about how bad its supposed to be. Here's a very rough summary about what supposedly went wrong with the european show, coming from the Xbox marketing manager for Austria, Thomas Kritsch (source):
"Because of the stronger european guidelines, all product-specific elements of the show had to be cut from the MTV show. We produced two infomercials to replace those elements, which were supposed to be shown in place of the regular commercials. Those watching the show via satellite should have seen them, for some reason they weren't shown on most of the cable networks though. We're not sure why and are looking into it. We appologize, it was not intended to happen this way."

Of course that only explains the even weaker european MTV show, its no excuse for how bad the original show was in the first place. ;)

Upps...

made my comment in the wrong thread, so just a fast copy and paste:

______________

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that this presentation was bad. For me it was _THE WORST_ I have ever seen. I switched to an commercial during the show cause it was so horrible. [ no joke! ]

If the Xbox360 is as bad as the first presentation....

And, I agree with Democoder, the first impression is the most important one. And here M$ failed miserable.

M$ go home is all I can say after this "show".

There wasn't much to cut.

Someone used a stopwatch:
1:24 of gameplay out of 30 minutes. (Actually <30 due to commercial breaks.)
