Movie Reviews 2.0

Halloween 2- 1981

8/10

My favorite of the series so far. I'm surprised it got such a bad review, though.
I recently watched
Halloween 1 - 5 in order
the only decent one is the first, 8/10 (but still overrated)
3,4,5 I rated 5/10
2 I rated the worse 4/10

Really? That's a shame. I felt the first one was way too slow paced, not to say I didn't enjoy it greatly. 3, 4 and 5 are on my too see list. Are you planning on seeing the remake coming out in August?

well in truth the first gets an extra point for the music, definitely in the top 10 music themes ever(*) but you are right its very slow

composed by the films director (which is strangely not unknown for horror directors, I havent seen the remake of the first by rob zombie, who went the other way, musician -> director. Hes remaking the second as well now, I will see them of course, it usually takes a while for me, I wait until they hit the $1 cost mark )

I've also seen the other halloween franchise 'reboot' halloween7 as well only 4/10
beware the 3rd film has absolutely nothing to do with Halloween at all, its like they taken an episode of friends + slapped the title 'Harry potter ..' on it

FWIW Ive also never really been a fan of the friday the 13th series as well

Harry's real powers lie elsewhere. To me he was never the king of spell power like Dumbledore, snape or Voldemort. In the books, it is made amply clear that his greatest strength is his ability to love.

Fuck that. If I wanted to see love, I'd watch a porno. I want some wizard of wizard crime from these movies. 3 and 4 were trending well into that direction and this one slowed things down too much. Hoping the final movies come out with hard hitting wand action.

lol @ RobertR1. While I do agree I think rpg is simplifying things a bit. Harry's other power is he is very quick thinking under pressure and his courage...that has definitely helped him more than his spells.

Planning what? Getting all his friends and his cousin killed? Having his cousin's kid sit there in the cupboard while it happens? Just so he can get his enemy to shoot himself in the head? That's some piss poor planning there.

Considering his ambition, it would be unrealistic that nothing goes wrong whatsoever. And this is basically another one of these movies where just about everyone is a criminal.

There is still the whole speech about his inner demon having been with him forever and these Zach and Avi being new (in the elevator). Then there is the speech Zach and Avi giving him about all these people around him in the casino also having these voices in their head leading them and them believing it to be themselves.

Real or imaginary, Zach and Avi represents morality and reasoning and Mr Gold represents animal instinct.

Heh, we really have a different reading here.

The key thing is the book and the flashback to the prison scene. I'd have to rent it before I can point you to it exactly, but if I remember correctly there is a scene that shows a book with annotations clearly indicating that all three characters are spin-offs of Jake's 10 year brooding on taking revenge.

Unlikely, since I live on the East coast of England! :p

I think Olga must have fallen asleep in the tanning salon, or maybe she fell in a large vat of creosote before filming?

lol so true. That distracted me quite a bit in the movie and especially at the movie theaters it was quite comical.

Funny People - 6.5/10 A very funny and enjoyable movie until the last third of the film, at which point it becomes a muddled, maple syrupy waste of time as Apatow dotes on his family and their scenes. Apatow's worst film to date.

Well, you gotta live with what JKR wrote.......

Aliens- 10/10

One of my all time favorite movies. Ever. It's completely timeless. Seems every time I watch it, I find a new Bill Paxton gem of a quote:

Hicks: They cut the power.
Hudson: What do you mean THEY cut the power? They're animals, man!

Yeah, it seems whenever the serious kicks in in any of his films, they go to hell. he can't write serious well enough.

I saw Coroline over the weekend.

Entertaining. Decent movie.

Not for kids. Period.

Creepy parent doppelgangers with button eyes are not for kids.

Coraline: 9/10. Fantastic movie and like said, not for kids at all. It's a dark movie.

District 9: 9.5/10. Go see this. Simple as that. Fantastic movie. Everything is really well done. Great pacing.
wish they touched more on the aliens background. would love to see a sequel.

Yah, District 9 is full of win.

Distinctly uncomfortable in a bunch of places that might otherwise be funny given that a bunch of it is references to things that did actually happen during apartheid

I'll give District 9 a 7/10. It was basically an action/thriller, and not a bad one. It starts in that documentary style. It really doesn't have anything intelligent to say about racism, or try to make much of a statement. It isn't hard sci-fi. Just an action/thriller in sci-fi makeup.

Expelled 3/10. It's filmed well. That's all I can say. It's in the manipulative style of Michael Moore, and I disagree with just about everything it says.
