Movie Reviews 2.0

The Fighter: 8/10. Really good for the most part. Mark Wahlberg and Amy Adams were weak in their acting compared to the Bale and the lady who played their mother.

The Adjustment Bureau: 7/10. Good until the end and then it was wrapped up too quickly.

Saw Prince of Persia finally, thought it was pretty decent. Especially in some of the opening scenes they did a pretty good job in capturing the spirit of the games, but they were also smart enough to not dwell on that too much and take some time developing the characters (although there were too many for the little time the movie had to actually develop them). It made me want to play the games again, and I had to remind myself that the games weren't quite that cool, so then I started fantasizing about being able to do some cool Move stuff for sword fighting and rope swinging, among others ...

Entertaining though, and definitely good for a movie of a game franchise. ;) (low standards, yes). Nice nods here and there to Assassin's Creed too.

Also saw Adam (2009), a movie intended to put Asperger's a bit more on the map, it seems. From what I know of that (not too much), it gave a pretty shallow/simplified view of the condition, and you have to remember that this is basically an example of how someone can end up being if they have been raised in relative seclusion. But in that case it is even harder to distinguish physical impairments versus lack of social development through non-exposure.

But I digress - it was still charming enough, and I liked the ending (not too predictable). The biggest weakness of the movie was the girl's father, who I think is from some soap (the Bold?) originally. He was beyond unconvincing, imho.

sorry for spoiling the plot
but its still worth watching for a certain scene about 60 minutes in
Although Lb may not appreciate the majesty of it ;)

Just watched Fat Head and it confirmed my suspicions regarding "nutrition". 10/10

Frozen - 6/10 - Sort of hard to watch, relied too much on being very graphic.

Never Let Me Go - 9/10 - This is just a beautiful film.

It's available for Netflix streaming, as is the aforementioned Monsters - which is available in very good quality HD.

I watched it. It was very good. Not too much new information to me as I have been studying the subject a bit lately, but it is presented in a funny and entertaining form, that it's easy to recommend for anyone to watch. Quite important stuff and lot of that is pretty disturbing all things considered.

A friend of mine told me that cholesterol lowering drugs will be taken off the market in 2014 or something like that. He said all the necessary studies regarding statins have been made and the results are known, but the drug companies are given few more years to exploit us (can't say for sure how accurate that is, or how much even I trust him on that). I'm sure they come up with something else. People would really do well if they'd pay little attention to proper nutrition.

and exercise...

I've seen studies which show that exercise long term doesn't lead to weight loss. The reason why people who exercise are thin is because they are self control freaks/masochists and they would be thin regardless of whether they exercised.

Anyway I saw Charlie St Cloud the other day, wasn't a bad movie and I thought it had a good twist in it. I would give it 6.7/10 due to various reasons but overall its very watchable.

... I might be wrong, but are you by any chance grossly overweight? Just a feeling i got from your post :devilish:

I was replying to a "people would do well to" not a "people would be thin if" comment.

I exercise often and I'm not thin. I do it to be strong and for a healthy heart and to offset my drinking and eating habbits (I eat healthy but I like to eat too much and I eat in restaurants too much).

If you want to lose weight, a controlled diet is probably 2/3 of the battle and exercise 1/3. But to say exercise doesn't burn stored fat or increase your metabolic rate is silly. I'll show you a study that says you can eat McDs 24/7 and not gain weight.

Lean muscle mass is related to your base metabolism, so I would think it would have to have some affect on your weight, long term.

Also, if you stop eating, you will loose weight. It's an old and drastic argument, but there were no overweight prisoners when they've liberated Auschwitz.

Before anyone takes it as an insult, I've been to the Buchenwald camp's museum when I was 13 and it had a very strong effect on me...

Loosing weight is to choose a good lifestyle. Exercise, eat no processed foods, don't eat too many snacks, and so on. There's like a gazillion sources for this kind of info, in very high detail, for everyone on the internet.
I personally did kung fu, tai chi, some body building (hated it), crossfit, for the last year and the half I've done kettlebelles and so far it's the best for me. Were it not for being overworked in the past 3 months (leading to not eating and sleeping well), I'd be in the best condition of my life at 33.

Close to the same age, and have been meaning to get into the kettlebell, but I keep hurting my wrist. Running, shadow boxing and a medicine ball is working ok for me, even though every time I hurt my wrist the medicine ball has to go away for a while.

Make sure you visit someone with RKC certification - and it's even better if he's into FMS and / or Z-health. Those things can help you get rid of most pains if the instructor knows this stuff. There's a lot of deceivingly simple exercises that can help surprisingly much.

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus - for what it tries to achieve 9/10 but falls short as the story gets a bit muddy towards the end.
In typical Hollywood style there is a happy ending and the feel good factor is ever-present.
Loved the devil and Dr Parnassus, the rest were kind of "meh" with a good performance by Ledger at times but seriously... a shrine to lost actors? C'mon Depp/Gilliam... really?
