Try not to take it too seriously, and you'll enjoy it.
Yeah, I ended up doing that. It's like you say, sci-fi type movies can't be taken too seriously, because if you do then they just end up falling apart and then there's no point to the movie anymore. It's like the screaming TIE fighters in the Star Wars movies.
If you just take the rules the movie sets up as the truth
while in that movie's universe, it becomes an enjoyable tale. It's not the best ever, but there's some great scenes in there for sure, and a couple WTF!-type moments too. The scenes in the hotel corridor, the train, and the hotel bar for example, as well as the ocean "cliffs" at the end were great, from a visual standpoint and simply as new, unique ideas.
I love Tom Hardy's acting, I've only seen him in a few movies, but every time he's done a superb job. His voice has a fantastic ascerbic, sarcastic edge to it, and he has such control over it too, giving it a real bite, and he has a great moviestar-type face too, a mug that doesn't just disappear in a crowd, but one you remember. Or, that's the way it works for me anyway.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (whose name I had to look up, lol) also struck me as a great performer, and one whom will hopefully grow and make a name for himself in the coming years and decades. Kind of reminds me of Orlando Bloom in a way, or maybe Orlando from nine, ten years ago when the century was still young.
