Movie Reviews 2.0

Yes, gf was with me and I ran out of stuff to watch :( The highlight of the flight was the girl one row up who watched Twilight 3 times in a row.....

I did forget one more I watched on the plane.

The A Team: 7/10. Fun, over the top action that has good pacing. Much better than previews for the movies.

Welcome to the club. I was dragged to the 2nd movie. Absolutely terrible. She even apologized after, which in itself is a victory (I think).

I watched Zack And Miri Make a Porno on Netflix. I should have known it would be shit, because Kevin Smith sucks. I'll give it a 5/10

The Outsiders - 7.5/10 Man, does Diana Lane look young in this movie, and it's full of familar faces. Watched it on Netflix for the first time in decades and still enjoyed it quite a bit.

The Man from Snow River - 8/10 Part of my recent Netflix-fueled nostalgia kick, I loved this wonderful coming of age movie when I watched it as a high school senior oh-so-many years ago and thought it held up quite well. I plan on watching this with my son once he's a teenager.

The Boys in the Band - 9/10 A fantastic, iconic film full of shimmering dialogue and amazing performances, particularly Kenneth Nelson's Michael. Highly recommended for a glimpse into gay culture and attitudes, pre-Stonewall.

Buried 7/10, a few unrealistic moments, but lead held the attention very well, some of the phone voices were a bit weak.

Kick-Ass, 8/10..only got round to seeing this, a real fresh film, engages from the start, extremely funny, VERY violent in places, some might find mating what is in effect a child with extreme violence and a trashy mouth unacceptable. But it was totally different from what I expected, and very entertaining.

Watched "Predators" on blu-ray the other day. Okay movie, a bit derivative of course, pretty short too, not all that much happening really. Adrian Brody was good as an amoral mercenary-type action hero (or maybe anti-hero is more like it), Lawrence Fishburne was fucking brilliant. He basically saved the whole movie single-handedly. There should have been more of his character, but that would have meant him stealing the whole show, which woulda bummed out the other actors I bet.

On the whole, a quite decent flick if you just want some mindless action. There's some good faces in there, the effects are decent enough; you can often see it's computer rendered, but the difference from reality isn't too detracting. With a bit of goodwill thinking this can typically be ignored. There's one bit in particular with some terrible CGI fire, but it's not bad enough to ruin the show.

Ultimately, "Predators"'s greatest achievement ends up being that it doesn't suck; although that also means it doesn't shine all that bright either. I'd give it a 7/10.

I'm watching "Inception" also today, but not gotten that far into it yet. The basic premise of the movie seems a bit tenuous.

Try not to take it too seriously, and you'll enjoy it. It isn't the greatest movie ever made. It isn't realistic at all, and the rules of the dream world are as you describe, tenuous at best. If you think about it, 99.9% of science fiction, or speculative fiction or space opera aren't any better.

I watched it on a trip to the US which was not a good idea when you have your sleep patterns messed up. :)

Sad ending though

It's a happy ending. Micheal Caine spoiled it in an interview.
A quick search turned up this
I'm confused. It must have been chopped or something on the plane as
the top was still spinning as it ended. Also, it seemed the children had not aged nor had they changed clothes from all his flashbacks,
...but maybe on the tiny screen I just missed the details

[UPDATE] Some more searching and someone else agrees
