Draquila - l'italia che trema (Italian documentary/satire about Berlusconi, the Italian government and the real dodginess surrounding the earthquake that destroyed L'Aquila, and many other things)

Amazing, must see kind of movie.

Even if you don't give a flying rat about Italy or Italian politics (i don't and neither should you - and i'm italian), you can't help but laugh.
And the saddest thing is that you won't laugh because it's a comedy, you will laugh because the level of stupidity, corruption, ridicule shown in this film is all true and is destroying a beautiful country right now.

and is STILL destroying a beautiful country EVEN now.

Corrected. Corruption is a long standing tradition over there, as is political instability. I think corruption should be taken more seriously, and on a European level. Perhaps a European taskforce that has authority or knowhow on helping to fight it and/or get rid of it on a more structural level.

Also I saw the other half of Hurt Locker yesterday (though I've still not seen the last few minutes, ironically). I don't know what to think about it really. It was pretty good but at the same time it seemed just like almost any other sort of realistic half-decent war movie I've seen, except this one was in Iraq.
As it stands, I'm not going to grade it. I think perhaps my favorite bit was the guy being angry in the chopper.

Saw The Social Network last night. I liked it very much, but it made me want to delete my Facebook profile.

Nasty. It did look like that from the trailer I saw.

Lucky for me I don't have one. So obviously I don't have any friends. Why won't anyone be my friend?

Ive never been a member of facebook either, at least Im not the only one. Ill try to resist as long as possible, I finally got my first cellphone this year (well technically someone gave it to me but still)

I saw last night capitalism a love story 6/10 moores getting worse.

Anyways I have one question, I assume its right but it was pretty unbelievable

How the hell do ppl let the company they work for take out a life insurance policy on them? Do ppl just not know?
Anyone here have such a thing?

There was a time when they called we New Zealanders an innovative country with a people who were quick to embrace new technology. I can see who I can blame for our losing that distinction!

Definately worse. He makes some good points in there but reading some of the source documents he takes things way out of context. Hes a sensationalist. I would say that had he kept to a more defendable position it would have been a much better story. However still raises interesting and good points and the distribution of wealth is something which isn't discussed enough and nor do we tend to get the left(er) view point out in public.

They just don't know. The people in the story were pretty surprised when they found out too. To the company its just another investment. Anyhow the big thing there was it shows how little some companies care about such morally unsound activities. Wholly unsurprising really.

I can see there being great money making potential there.
I wonder if I can do that here in NZ, eg can I take a life insurance policy out on you squilliam with me being the beneficiary when you die? Ill try for a $5million payout like that guy in the film. Hows your cars brakes? whats your address, I need this for the paperwork.

The scary thing is theres prolly ppl reading these forums that dont know that their employers have life insurance policies out on them. :)

Probably not. Theres a significant conflict of interest in taking out a life insurance policy on someone who isn't in your immediate family. First of all, theres the possibility you'll try to kill them.

I haven't heard of it happening anywhere but the states. Obviously other countries are insane like Americans too but they don't get in the news as often.

Moore's points are often good ones, but he destroys his credibility regularly due to his outright lies and manipulation of the truth.

Eraserhead 8/10 or 3/10 - Hadn't seen it in a long time. Still disturbing, still messed up. I love weird movies, so I tend to love David Lynch movies. The thing is, when I think about it objectively, this movie doesn't make any sense at all, and in many ways, I should think its awful. Something about it just makes me want to watch it again.

American Grindhouse 7/10 - Interesting look at Grindhouse cinema, its history and all its sub-genres. Cool documentary. I like campy B-movies, but a lot of the movies they showed were just incredibly disturbing. Roughies? People actually watched those?

The Men Who Stare at Goats - 6 or 7/10. Pretty funny at times, but kind of falls apart towards the end, I thought.

Not convinced it's worth sitting through an entire movie for, this Natalie-Portman-bottom-thong-thing. I guess Youtube will deliver the edited highlights quite quickly though.

It's also got Zooey Deschanel in it. It's therefore worth sitting through.
