I have absolutely no problem with brainless action movies. I have a huge problem with the way they're filmed. There's way too much slo-mo, way too much shakey-cam. I can't think of a single notable action film director at this point. The colour is always incredibly over-saturated or extremely limited. Generally the characters are all in the anti-hero mold, which has gotten incredibly boring.
I'd watch some of the terrible action movies form the 80s and early 90s before I'd watch most of the movies from the late 90s and 2000s.
Yeah, I can agree with the cinematography now days being generally bad for action films.
The one I hate the most, absolutely completely totally hate is the "quick cut" MTV video style of camera work. I want to be able to focus on the freaking action. Not have a half second glimpse where my eyes barely have a chance to focus before it switches to another camera angle for half a second, switches, etc...
That right there is the absolute worse thing to happen to films and movies...ever.
And it's absolutely unforgiveable for a good martial arts flick where you want to actually see the fight scenes.
