Movie Reviews 2.0

After seeing it mentioned somewhere, I watched Rec then Rec 2 on the weekend, in the middle of the night with the lights off of course. Really enjoyed these as I'm a fan of good zombie movies (it's more 28 days zombies than your classic zombies btw). Shot Diary of the Dead style (think Cloverfield if you don't know what I mean) and done really well in that regard. Very few movies get my heart racing but the end scenes of Rec were a lot of fun.

The sequel was also quite decent, set immediately after the first (in fact some parts in #2 are occuring during the first movie).

Highly recommended for zombie flick lovers. Oh and they're spanish movies btw, if you have an issue with subitles.

I want to see Iron Man 2 @ the IMAX but I am wondering if it is really worth the moolah-age. Sounds like it is rather meh isntead of being wow!

Finally saw the Blind Side on my flight to Seoul & was really impressed with Bullock whom I normally can't stand. Sappy movie but 7/10.

Book of Eli (same flight): 3/10

Iron Man 2 1/10 Great, wasted 20€ on tickets for this. What a poor excuse for a movie. Look, it's people in iron suits going clunk clunk while moving. Later explosions. The end. I was really looking forward to seeing Rourke again, after The Wrestler, which I liked. I have to admit, I have never read a comic book in my life, so maybe I'm not in the right mindset for this, but why then did I like Watchmen (despite missing twenty minutes in the middle)?

The Wrestler (DVD) - 7/10
Watchmen (BR) - 6/10

Well watchmen is not a comic but rather a graphic novel, its very different from traditional comic books.

Ironman was a shitty comic and character so I'm not sure why ironman made into a movie would be much better. If anything the ironman movie is much more enjoyable than the comic. Ofcourse neither ironman movie can come close to matching xmen 1&2. Go into ironman 2 with a popcorn/summer blockbuster mindset and you'll enjoy it much more than hoping for a movie with depth.

Robinhood: 6.5/10

Meh. Not nearly as good as Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven. Ridley Scott swung and missed with this one.

If you want to see the best Robin Hood movie made within my lifetime, check out Robin and Marian (1976). Written by James Goldman (The Lion in Winter), and starring Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn, Robert Shaw, Ian Holm, and, best of all, Nicol Williamson. Absolutely fantastic movie.

Iron Man 2 wasn't as good as the first one, for sure. The family drama didn't work for me, at all. The movie really lacked in the plot department and it had the same major flaw as the first movie, and many other super hero movies - It lacked an interesting villain, or at least the villain was incredibly underused.

So far the only recent superhero movies to get the villain right were Dark Knight and Spiderman 2. In the rest of them, the villain was almost an afterthought. The villains seem to have the most boring ambitions ever, like getting more money or boosting their self-esteem. Mickey Rourke could have been a good villain in this one, but he's very underused and the final showdown is a massive letdown.

I still thought the movie was enjoyable, but it's not what I'd call a complete film.

Prince of Persia 6.5/10 - My god, but that girl is hot. Her upper lip arches to perfection, and those eyes are to die for. The rest isn't too bad either. Hmm, what else do I remember from the movie?

Nope, that's it.

I just saw robin hood and it was actually pretty good. I don't want to give a rating at the moment, but I found it every bit as good as gladiator or kingdom of heaven.

Robin Hood 8/10 - Best movie of the year so far, though that might be more of a comment on the year so far. What was up with the WW2 looking landing ships on the beach though?

They actually did have them. Historical texts from the Crusades talk about landing craft being used. So I'd argue historical detail here. :)

So on robin hood there were some strange things
How did he suddenly know he was Robin Longstride at the end? What about lady Marion's property?

I wondered about that too, but it didn't bother me too much. Someone was bound to let the cat out of the bag on that, either intentionally or accidentally.

The actor who played Godfrey is getting quite a few villain roles lately.

Big time  for Ms. Arterton, yes. Think I'll go watch it this evening just based on that review. It could be a 0/10, I'm still game.

Dunno how longs its been out, but I just watched Hangover on DVD.

Funny, Funny film, stagweekend in Vegas goes horrible wrong, havn't laughed so much in ages.

Umm...just seen from the thread that they are making a Thor move ????....that was my favourite Marvel character. I've been thinking that it would never make a decent movie, cause although it was my fav by miles, when you look back on it, how can they make it, and it not look camp as a very camp thing ?

Thor, Ironman and Spiderman where my favourites, strangely enough I never read a single X-men comic, and I bought 100's and 100's of Marvel comics in the 70s.

Dunno why the Ironman movies trashed the core of any superhero, in that their day-to-day persona is unknown, enjoyed the 1st one immenely, havn't seen the 2nd one yet.
