Watched Babel last night on HD DVD, while too scared to turn on my PS3
I remembered it being fantastic at the cinema, but hadn't seen in it since (picked up the HD DVD during the fire sale of discs when the format died). Not sure what's happened to me as a person in the interim years, but the film was really deep for me this time, and I found I understood the underlying message about really listening to people and language a lot more.
The entire film is an example of what can happen if you're careless and don't take the time to really understand other people and their motivations. When it was all woven together at the end I was deeply satisfied. Terrific film, only spoiled by the pace of things at times (too slow for me, some stuff was over indulgent).
Really well shot, fantastic audio production (there are big chunks of the film with no dialogue) and very well acted. I know I've watched a movie that clicked with me when I spend 2 hours on IMDb afterwards researching the acting and production talent for a film so I can find new movies by the same people to watch.
Oh, and I'm not sure whether it was the original film, the transfer, my TV or my 360, but there's some really poor juddering while the camera pans in places.
9.5/10 though, brilliant.
