"Hurtlocker"

7/10

I really can't for a sec figure where the whole swell of "this has oscars written all over it" came from. Its a war film from the viewpoint of a bomb disposal, its not a gripping thriller, its not even a great story teller, its entertaining, but thats it.

It you ask me to pick this film or say "black hawk down" I'd pick hawk every time, such a really entertaining modern war drama. And it pales into insignficance compared to say "saving private ryan".

perhaps hurtlocker getting so many nominations is just a statement on how poor the standard of films were that year.

Jennifer's Body - GENIUS! So cliche', trashy, useless that it was actually good.

And yes, the Fox is just a beautiful creature to look at, and coming from me that's saying a lot.

Avatar getting nominated for best film is an even stronger statement.

That's what I was about to say. I really enjoyed Hurt Locker and I enjoyed Avatar, but when thinking that Avatar almost beat out Hurt Locker you have to say it wasn't the best year for motion pictures. I mean Avatar was fun and all, but hardly best picture material.

How to Train Your Dragon: 10/10. Absolutely fantastic from start to end. I have no minor nitpicks with the movie. The 3D was well done also. A must buy on Blu Ray when it comes out.

I don't think many expected it to win. Doubtful that it would have been nominated if they hadn't gone to 10 nominees but you never know.
doubtful? need I remind you of titantic (by the same director) which not only got nominated but won! mainly due to it like avatar smashing the box office record

And yes, the Fox is just a beautiful creature to look at, and coming from me that's saying a lot.
Is this pre or post plastic surgery?

Avatar was a heavy favourite to win best picture until the last week or so when Hurt Locker seemed to gather momentum and overtake it.

Clash of the Titans was pure shite, I won't even grace it with a review :runaway:

Seen Kick-Ass twice now and it's a riot of laughs pretty much from start to finish. Chloe Moretz is BRILLIANT, Cage knocks it out of the park, the actors that play Kick-Ass, Red Mist, Marty and Todd are funny and likeable, Mark Strong (Red Mist's dad and the main bad guy) is great....the supporting cast is good too, it's all nicely done in terms of the talent on screen. The dialogue is packed to the rafters with stuff to make you laugh, and it looks good too. Loved it, 9/10.

Other notable stuff I've seen recently all on Blu-ray:

Final Fantasy Advent Children - 6/10 (remembered loving it on UMD, but it didn't click this time)
Mesrine (both parts) - 9/10 (best gangster movies I've seen this year)
Up! - 10/10 (think I've reviewed it before, can't help crying when I watch it)

... is that the same girl??

I don't buy it. Maybe she's had collagen injections in her lips, but all the "before after" shots are stretched horizontally in aspect ratio (the one above is wider by about 10-15% between the centers of the irises on the "before" shot). Other than that, what's different in the shot above? Make-up is about it. Even the bump defect on the right side of her nose is in both shots.
