Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard King for $69 Billion on 2023-10-13

Why should Sony make any deal? The CMA said it doesnt make sense to withdraw CoD from the Playstation system. So in the end the winner is Sony...
The CMA doesn't care if Microsoft does attempt to make CoD exclusive anymore since they can't be trusted when there's no commitments in place from stopping them ...

Microsoft will make Activision Blizzard IPs exclusive if they can because they absolutely do want to engage in an acquisition race to create a monopoly despite what some may believe otherwise ...

Activision used Sony and Microsoft to make more money - sold them exclusive deals. Now the CMA has come to the conclusion that Microsoft needs Sony more than ever:
So the final assumption is that MS will simply not be able to afford cutting the bigger ip off from playstation due to the amount of revenue gained on the platform? Bet

If Sony really wanted to win this, they should have focused on Activision as a whole and the enormity of the acquisition rather than call of duty. Their argument was bad from the start and as far as arguments wise, lost on that basis

It was the same for Bethesda. MS don't care, they can afford it because of the money they won elsewhere. No company out a GAFAM could have done what Microsoft have done with Xbox division. Losing so much money Sony or Nintendo would be out of the console market without the ABK deal.

I'm not saying the argument is sound. But clearly MS has a lot of pull and regulators generally are not all that good at regulation, and that goes for most modern industries.

Even on the face of it the argument seems dubious when they didn't spend all that money on activision to sell copies in the first place, but to tie valued intellectual property to gamepass

I agree with you and even if it was for sell copies, they need Sony until end of this gen after they can cut them. Now to finish the job, they need Take two or EA. EA don't use the FIFA license, MS can make the next EA football/soccer game exclusive without problem. They just need to let the game multiplatform until next generation.

They won’t cut out after 10 years.
They’d be lucky if cod is still relevant. The 10 year deal is better as reassurance so that players don’t leave cod on their platform of
Choice for another game.

Honestly, being the owner of cod and Minecraft on billions of devices is very profitable, they only need to beat their competition at cloud infrastructure which they can do.

Sony will cease being the leader in gaming once cloud is the larger market.

I thought Sony hadn't signed any 10 year contract?
It would not be in MS favour to deny them. That would guarantee there are no future acquisitions for them.

Denying COD on PS+ and PSNow is the reason Sony should sign the deal. It’s definitely staying on console.

They have some incentive to shut them out of cloud, but given the deals being signed with others, they will also have Cod on streaming like the others.

Not sure how true this is, but ...

NEW: At least 11 members of Congress have pressed the Biden administration to take action over Sony's alleged interference with Microsoft's Xbox efforts in Japan

I obtained two letters sent by House reps. The Republican one's a bit spicier

Exclusive game deals that violate Japan's own antitrust laws.

It really wasn't hard to find in the linked article.
Like WHAT exclusive deals? Like local japanese developers preferring to focus on the console that the Japanese prefer to buy? 😆
MS tried multiple times to get exclusives and exclusive Japanese support, which they got with both XBOX and 360. Didnt do much, even when Sony delayed the PS3

Isnt Monster Hunter and other games Playstation exclusive which are multiplat in EU/US (because Xbox is non existent there)?

Exclusive game deals are not anti trust 😂
Might depend on wording, like being exclusive to your platform is one thing but if it's worded to explicitly not allow release on Platform Y? Shrug. Really don't know, could be one of those sort of distinctions. 🤷‍♂️

Final Fantasy series.
The XBOX got all main FF games from 13-15 (along with their spin offs, direct sequels and DLCs) with simultaneous releases to the PS counterparts, plus remasters of old and still wasnt doing well in Japan, so thats clearly not an argument. The only FF that the XBOX didnt get is 14 which SE tried to make but MS prevents, FF7 remake and the unreleased 16. So basically the only exclusive deal Sony ever got of a released FF game is FF7Remake, which came during the end of the PS4's lifespan.

And that's what this could be about.

And still not a good argument because exclusive deals happen all the time by both, and the reason XBOX is underperforming in Japan isnt because of Sony's supposed exclusive deals since they were always underperforming even with the big FF games released on it.
