MGS4 3D engine post mortem [translation needed]

I'm not saying anything about marketing claims, only correcting a misconception that how a file is stored on the disk means it will necessarily be output in the same format. Your uncompressed sound files could ultimately reach the player via a lossy Dolby Digital bitstream and, likewise, your highly compressed MP3 audio files on disk could end up being delivered as an uncompressed multichannel PCM stream.

All right, with you, we always output sound uncompressed in final stage, speakers…
The fact is some claims that MGS4 use PCM7.1 for the sound at not only as a output option, but as a complete stage so PCM 7.1 use a lot of space. Remember all the speachs about 50 GB is not enough for MGS4 due to the sound.
A PCM 7.1 is eight independents tracks so one hour corresponding of eight hours in stockage.

Well, it might be disc-number overkill but 5 dvds would be a perfect fit. Whenever in the PS3 version the user has to wait for a new install, the 360 user would just exchange discs... assuming they can get all the shared assets plus Act specific assets in each disc.

just english (or japanese) on disc, no multi language.

Awe, so they really got to compress the audio down. However, since we don't really know what quality it is now and what will be acceptable, it might be hard to call. But for sure audio is one of those thing where you can compress it down quite a bit before someone start noticing unlike video. Since, I assume that most of the audio are mixed together, so individually they might sound bad, but as part of entire mixed sound they might not be so bad.

Anyone ever play around with MOD files (Amiga), they know what I mean.
