Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

Is there a good way to aim the mortar that lets you accurately place attack over buildings? The AI is pretty good at it, while I fumble around with white arc, the dithered circle and the camera, which doesn't let me see jack when the landscape in front of me is elevated or some objects are in front of my target. Am I missing something?

Apparently it was going to be even better, but pressure from the publisher to release made them leave a lot of planned stuff out

Do you have a link for that? I am interested to read about the removed stuff :)
Its all about stuff after the end in the current game. SO, tread only if you have finished it. Apparently there were more chapters, another act, maybe small, but it was there and an end which clarified more.
I have not finished it so I haven't seen anything but I know this is what its all about.

I'm loving it, but certain aspects I do find kind of annoying: the build times for the later upgrades are ridiculous, motherbase is nothing more than a visual representation of a menu (would've been cool to actually witness some of the events, like troops infighting or even construction) and serves zero gameplay purposes, and as good as the game and its beautifully interlocking gameplay systems may be at facilitating a million different playstyles, both the lifeless maps as well as the mission objectives can get rather samey and old. The game doesn't feel effortlessly massive like the Witcher 3 did. It feels a bit desperate in trying to get there.
On the one hand I'm loving the freedom and just how much of a departure this MGS turned out to be compared to previous installments, but on the flipside I'm not so sure that replacing the earlier games' narrative drive with absurd amounts of insubstantial weapon choices, heaps of progress bars and a shallow pokemon component was the best possible call to make either.

I don't really see the cynicism here. I do think it's a damn great game. Just not one of the bestest game ever kind of games we have like 10 times each year. I mean how many "exfiltrate the skilled soldier" missions does it take before someone is allowed to see padding for what it is.

There's only so many feasible reasons to extract someone or steal something or kill someone or destroy something. They're just arbitrary reasons for a mission so you can play in that fabulous sandbox environement.

I'm still not fair into the game so it may pan out but I would have liked more options to really impact the Soviet uncursion. I.e. taking out one of their airfield means new supplies and personnel can't be brought in so soldiers run out of equipment like ammunition and soldiers don't respawn as quickly. Similarly destroying bridges to break supply lines then coming back later to kill the engineers trying to fix the bridge.

You always find something to complain about :p

Is anyone else getting creeped out by Quiet? At first the silence was refreshing, but now she's starting to stare at me .esp in the chopper and when she's all covered in blood it's quite unquieting....

That said, the boob physics almost make up for it (don't look her in the eyes, just keep staring at her chest..........)

Ok my thoughts after very few hours.

-Graphically is mediocre, it looks like a computer game. Plastic Gear Solid they should have called itit.
-Less coltrols schemes than Ground Zeroes, disappointing.
-Too many menues, too convoluted.
-Voice acting can be terrible, Troy Barker doesn't get Ocelot right IMO. I miss Zimmermann.
Sutherland is just ok, snake speaks so little anyway.
-The iDroid map is too small when used while moving, in GZ it was bigger and I had no problems, now it's harder to play my way.
-Suppressors that deteriorate are a ridiculous.
-Afghanistan feels empty and insignificant outsude populated areas. To summarize I would say that "cp/outposts are gameplay oasis in a desert of boredom".
-The limited traversal can be annoying and really limits freedom of approach.
-Weapons in first person are not always functional, but is rare.
-Automatic cover is dodgy , sometimes it doesn't work.
-Stupidly there are no lethal cqc moves: Splinter Cell, Dishonored, Thief, basically all stealth games have lethal and non lethal melee so Kojima is behind times.
-We get score reductions for not completing missions in one sitting: whisk tango fox Kojima!

+Great freedom of approach is great. This makes it stand IMO.
+Very short loading times.

BTW I am enjoying it very much despite all its shortcomings.

At one point I made a four part plan, imlpemented it, fultoned two tanks and got all the elite soldiers.

At another moment, which wasn't even part of the mission, I overheard a conversation two guards were having which just made me stop and stare at them. They were people with kids ! uptill now they were just futon fodder for me.....and the conversation made a very stark comment at our glittery diamond habits !

The game feels like playing a sport, like chess....where I make a move and see how the oppnent reacts, then I make a move again, implement a plan and win ! Is this the most fun I am having "playing" in a game since original Deus Ex : Seems so !

Any complaints : No , cos I have no time to notice, I am too busy planning my next prank/plan all the time ! best game ever?: no doubt  !

The objectives in side-ops are repetitive, but I'm fine with it because the game gives you the freedom to complete it pretty much any way you want.
If this was another game like Mass Effect or whatever then NOPE.
Plus the main story missions are so good. SO GOOD...

deteriorating suppressors if I am not mistaken were there since MGS3 minus MGS4

I’m quite enjoying the game; when I’m in the right frame of mind for it, it’s just amazing. You really do need to have masses of patience for it though and it doesn’t really work brilliantly well with my gaming sensibilities. I do like to have a game that I can play for 30mins to an hour and feel like I’ve accomplished something, but most of the missions (even sub-missions) can take several hours to complete. So if you’re midway through one, you lose progress unless you’ve got to one of the checkpoints.

I find it quite annoying that the helicopter can’t drop you closer to the missions themselves, you always have to transverse several enemy camps. It’s frustrating because you can’t simply rush past most of them, they’ll shoot your horse and make you take them all on. Sometimes I just want to progress the story without having to faff about with the getting to the right place.

I like the fact that you’re essentially building an army and a huge base, even if I see little point in all of the additional sections that get built.

The game is great, probably better than I’m able to appreciate. I simply don’t have the hours to properly get into all of the elements of it.
