Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

WHEN !!!!???? When wil the trailer arrive, the wait is killing em

Have been playin this in my house since yesterday :

heck, been listenening since the last year, the song is so haunting, gets into my head and all I see is Snake plunging into madness turning into Venom Snake (What a name Kojima) !

In MGS 4 is revealed that
Big Boss was never a villain and that Solid Snake actually has been used all the times by the proxies to kill him.
I am not sure how Kojima can change that in a believable way and turn BB into a mad man.

Really, how coe it didn't register with me? I played that game like a madman, skipping work for 4 days straight. Can u link to the cutscene?

It's in the final dialogue with Big Boss himself.
Quote:
"They did it again. They used you to kill me. The Patriots.
No... Their proxies..."

Pretty much every villain was trying to give freedom to the world, freedom from the patriots' shadow rule, but was stopped/killed by Solid Snake or Ninja GayRaiden.

IMO MGS2 story ruined the series, Kojima has then managed to bring it back on track with MGS3 but sadly he fu*@** it up again with MGS4.

New trailer:

Just like with the previous games, the more of the story you know the worse it sounds. At least the gameplay seems awesome.

Major Zero is in the game!!! :D Control of the language... before the arrival of Patriots AI who tried to control the information flow in MGS2... and before they tried to control the world economy in MGS4.

Language is the new nanomachines.
It is not a concept he pulled out of his ass. How language defines identity, perception etc and how controlling language has been used as a measure of influence and control are subjects that already existed and researched
Its obvious hat Hideo Kojima is a well read individual.

Hideo Kojima always has great ideas and themes for the games but the execution is always poor because he has no concept of subtlety. You see Kubrick film and you rarely get the themes right away, you have to rewatch his movies and pay a lot of attention to see the layers. When you play a MGS game Kojima drops anvils on your several times over.

The awful dialogue doesn't help. As Harrison Ford once said: "You can type this shit but you can't say it".

The 2013 trailer was great because the theme was very simple and very universal: revenge.

The 2014 trailer was great because it was the descent of madness and the horrors of war. There was barely any dialogue in it. It was purely about emotion.

The 2015 trailer sucks because there's no emotion and has lots of badly written academic overexposition. It's plain boring.

You cant expect every movie to be like Kubrick's at expressing its theme. It depends what direction the movie is taking. I see a huge improvement between this and MGS4. MGS4 was indeed one of the worst written games of the franchise
To me whatever was shown in the new trailer made perfect sense. With a medium such as a videogame, communicating important themes may be different. A movie can last for a few hours. Every scene is controllable by the director who knows that its easier for the viewer to rewatch to get the themes than replay a videogame. If the director wants to be "poetic" and "abstract" he can communicate the themes subtly. But I dont see how MGS5 could have been like a Kubrick movie at expressing its themes.
P.T for example was better fitting for such an approach hence why the background of what was going on was expressed in subtle ways and left for the player to guess and speculate.

edit: Besides I think MGS5 has lots of themes to communicate. This trailer is just one of the many.

Just bring it on Big Boss ! Kojima San, I still hope that ur fight with Konami is just a Loltroll from you, SNake has to live on ! Has to, u can end it after i die.....

MGS games are filled to the brim with cutscenes. Kojima could make perfect use of subtle film storytelling techniques if he wanted.

As to specific subtle game storytelling techniques, check out this thread on reddit:

Are we talking about themes or story telling? They arent necessarilly the same thing
Kubrick's movies were constantly suggestive of their themes. Story subtlety in games that I played and were mentioned in the thread you posted, were hit or miss and didnt make much difference to the player at the end. They were more like story telling easter eggs. Some of MGSV's themes need to be loud. It could have subtlety for story deepening purposes. But its not like MGS didnt have those in the past in conjunction with its main themes

yup, In fact , MGS has had the most feedback options from the game programmed into it. The game always reacted back to your inputs. Which goes much further than just environmental or illusionary storytelling. WHich MGS is anyways full of.
Kojima has his style and it works. Its a matter of liking, not of being incorrect.
