Burning hot news straight from Konami's ongoing European MGS 3 launch event

17:25 Solid Snake mastermind Hideo Kojima has confirmed that work is shortly to begin on Metal Gear Solid 4.

Speaking to press at Konami's European launch event for Metal Gear Solid 3, currently underway in Berlin, Germany, Kojima-san revealed that Metal Gear Solid 4 "will be a next-generation title" and went on to say that number four will kick off a brand new series featuring Solid Snake.

Although Kojima-san was giving away few extra details, he did let slip that the concept of Metal Gear Solid 4 will be "No place to hide". He also quipped that there would be "No place for Hideo". He plans to tack a step back and assume the role of executive producer on MGS 4, meaning he won't be as hands-on with the sequel as he was with Metal Gear Solid 3.

Stepping in as producer on Metal Gear Solid 4 is Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi. "We'll be taking it [MGS 4] to the next-gen and we want to feature a fresh, intriguing storyline and gameplay plus captivating graphics and more features while remaining true to the core of the MGS series - remaining Solid. We hope you'll enjoy," Imaizumi-san told an excited press gathering at Konami's event.

Folks, that's it for now, but with our frontline reporter on the scene in Berlin keep eyes peeled for potential further mouth-watering titbits on MGS 4.

MGS has lost its luster since the arrival of Splinter Cell... MGS became a showcase for cutscenes as opposed to gameplay I think Kojima knows this thus the action re-orientation of the series...

 I suppose that's why Splinter Cell has like what, a tenth of the sales and attention of the Metal Gear Solid series?

"No place for Hideo".

Hmm.... :( What a shame... will be interesting to see how it turns out, but regardless, my expectations are very high :)

I dont know about sales but in terms of attention....hmmmm... I dont think your perception is accurate. Splinter Cell is very big (ie, E3 2004). I think the press and gamer excitement for chaos theory far exceeds that of MGS3...

You´re pretty crazy. MGS´s gameplay is FAR beyond Splinter Cell´s. To think that only until its third itiration it´s finally getting to catch up with the first MGS in terms of nonlinearity is hillarious. It´s also funny that it´s stealth mechanics are so broken that you can dance the macarena in front of the guards as long as it´s dark.

Great. Another thread for MGS fanboys and SC fanboys to sling crap at each other.

Come on. Just talk about MGS4, please.

Agreed.

Seriously both games are awesome in their own right, so why compare them? It's like comparing apples and oranges. ;)

Dunno, I still cant get myself to finish MG3 :?
They went WAY over the top with superpowers, bosses loose all their respect when they repetively scream their own name ("The Fear, The Fear, the...") or like a Cat with sqeezed balls (Ocelot). They are just nowhere near of the class of "Raven" or the grown up "Ocelot".
And I cant bear playing the game without the Radar of the first 2 Games. Hiding just plain sucks, the bossfight with "The End" is even worse.

I really hope they change ALOT for the next Part

THAT is untrue. Even as an opinion the comment about the macarena cannot be considered right... this is not about a fanboy impression here.

I never got into the mgs' the way I got into the sc's because the sc's were more realistic to me. The mgs's are fanciful takes on stealth but more showcase pieces for the ps2 hardware than anything else (talking 2 &3 here). Plus the cutsecenes felt like they took up most of my gametime...

On the other hand although I did not really like SC2 (it felt different from sc1) it still moved the genre further along than mgs2 or three did in terms of gameplay mechanics which still seemed fairly sixteen bit...

all of this imho of course.

As far as mgs4 i hope they can take the gameplay back to mgs with the graphics quality equal to or better than sc3

Agreed, basically PS1 MGS gameplay with nothing new to add. The MGS franchise is getting pretty stale, it needs a new direction like how RE4 did it. The new direction will probably be more like SC.

Heh, I recall Hideo Kojima saying he would stop playing a major role in the development of Metal Gear Solid after the second title was completed...

Something about "my team being able to make the game without me".

You´re an idiot, plain and simple, if you for a second believe that the cutscenes take up most of the gaming time in MGS games. Storyline, while being a mayor game ina universe filled with personality (unlike Tom Clancy´s generic storyline and characters), is nowhere near taking even half of the game.

MGS2´s the game with the biggest ammount of cutscenes in the series, on the first time through, on average it´ll take 15hours. Of those, being exagerated, 5 hours are of cutscenes and codec scenes. Saying cutscenes take up the majority of the gameplay means that you have never played the games and/or that you are an idiot.

MGS´s take on gameplay is much more realistic than Splinter Cell´s, since all that game does is rely on broken shadow-based gimmicks. Enemy AI is horrendous, paths are truly linear, and aiming is pretty bad. I don´t get from where people think this series is even close to being good, it´s garbage, pretty garbage, but garbage none the less.

Thanks for youre very adult treatment of the issue. You're post is a an exemplary "howto" on how to post salient points, witty discourse, fair and unbiased analysis and valuable opinions.

...actually youre an asshole and made an asshole post. Am I supposed to afraid of of your name calling and MGS bluster...GTFOH... what are you some kind of internet thug? Yes I am laughing at someone in cyberspace who feels they can call insult people from behind a keyboard... like a sissy... get some therapy dude...

Lets talk about gameplay in MGS3... um why is it that a camoflaged spy can crawl around in the jungle with a back pack that can hold a caged animal? how stealthy is that? or how about um the fact that he has unlimited backpack inventory space for "stuff" but not guns... i guess guns have special weight properties that other things like furry animals dont... how realistic is that? This isnt fugging dungeon master!

MGS2 is worse... Who tha frick is Raiden and why is he even in the game? stupid plot twists like that and storyline choices made it not even worth the price of admission... (I mean that literally cause there is about about andhour worth of popcorn eating cutscenes in the first 3.5 hour of gameplay... WTF?Games are supposed to be interactive entertainment.

LOL. I have played all MGS' but just got bored with them to the point of not wanting to finish them - much less buying them. I like SC more thats all. Dont bother replying. Cause even if you do, I will ignore your childish ass posts forever.

I said why you were an idiot, since only one could say that MGS is made up of cutscenes. You calling me those other names based on God knows what is ridiculous. I´m no Internet "thug", all I am is someone who will call on someone´s lies based on fictious arguements. And you fit the mold perfectly.

Ridiculous complaints, really. Those are gaming conventions and cannot be attacked due to how useful they are and the comfort they bring to gaming. Find real complaints.

As was mentioned, MGS2 has ample gameplay that far exceeds the ammount of cutscenes in the game. What strikes me as stupid is that you qualify the storyline as nonsensical when you haven´t even finished the game, that disqualifies your opinion genious. How about VALID gameplay complaints, huh?

I also would like you to tell me how ALL games should play like, since you seem to know everything about videogames and how they all should play, Mr Interactive Entertainment knower tm.

LOL. I have played all MGS' but just got bored with them to the point of not wanting to finish them - much less buying them. I like SC more thats all. Dont bother replying. Cause even if you do, I will ignore your childish ass posts forever.

Well, it´s not my fault if you like crap, really. If you want to be "different", then find valid complaints to bitch about, instead of clinging to lies.

Do me a favor and go play Sam Fisher´s latest generic advanture. I don´t think your stupid trolling in a MGS thread is needed.

meh. MGS3>SC. i love em both but MGS takes the cake because its more FUN overall and has a much better(if sometimes outta this world) story. better characters, story and whatever give it the edge. SC owns online tho. i love em both either way ^^

Almasy and blakjedi stop disussing taste, that's pointless, to each his taste, clearly blakjedi finds MGS to have too many cutscenes while you don't Almasy, end of story.
