Ok... So I broke down today. For those of you who read my previous messages, you'll know I've got only Last-Gen consoles, which I use to play exclusives or EA Sports titles.
I managed to dump a beer on my Xbox controller about 3 months ago, and then directly after that, threw my Mad Cat Xbox Wanna Be Controller into the floor repeatedly because the buttons weren't in the same place that I was used to.
(My Xbox had an "S" controller, the Madcat controller was a "Full size original" version), and the black and white buttons are in different places, which matters a GREAT deal if you're trying to play Madden with the controller.
Anyway.. I haven't had a controller for my Xbox for the past 3-4 months. The reason I didn't buy one was because I'd rather just spend that $40 for a new controller towards a completely new system.
The bottom line is that things don't work out as planned, so I decided to goto Target and buy an Xbox controller and Madden 2007.
Well, surprise, surprise. They don't have ANYTHING in stock for the Xbox. They've got a bunch of empty shelves that USED to have Xbox games, accessories, etc... But there's nothing actually THERE.
I ended up buying my first ever wireless controller, because the Logitech "Cordless Precision Controller" was the only Xbox controller that they even had. (I'm also a huge fan of Logitech products so that helped the sale... If it was "Slappy's Cordless Precision Controller", I wouldn't have bought it.)
And then... Guess what? There's NO copies of Madden in stock. NONE. Not ONE. This game didn't just come out.
The ENTIRE Xbox area was ravaged as if they were giving away free prostitutes with every game. (The 360 area was half empty, but... since I don't have a 360, that's a story for somebody else).
It's one thing if stores aren't giving shelf space to the Xbox (because... well, they probably shouldn't at this point), but it's something completely different if they ARE giving shelf space and all the items that take up that space are sold out.
I can't believe that I couldn't find a MS Controller S for the Xbox, and/or that I couldn't find Madden 2007 for the Xbox.
Not because the shelf space wasn't dedicated for it because they were pushing the 360, or PS2, or whatever... but because it was SOLD OUT.
That just blows my mind, and it makes me think that the Xbox had much longer legs than anybody gives it credit for.
Sure.... I'll try my wireless Logitech controller and maybe I'll never go back.... and I'll play NCAA 2007 instead of Madden, because that's all they had... but I went to the store wanting MADDEN and a very BASIC Xbox WIRED Controller, and I couldn't find either.
That's shocking, at least to me.
