Lack of "buzz" in this forum!

I wasn't aware this place had turned into the general forum, someone must have secretly switched the labels around... :?

Hint: the thread was meant to be taken seriously. Can you guys, stoned or not, please at least try to act your age? :?

Can I try (stoned or not)?

IMHO

a) (as Dave already indicated) it's a bit too early for either side.
b) what's there so ground-breaking in the PC-pipeline (apart from performance increases) that we could expect this year that I've missed?

c) (and most important to me) where are the "buzz" games for "buzz" accelerators anyway? (throws a nasty look up to the northern balkans).

I disagree, Nvidia is grossly overvalued sure, but ATI is overvalued as well as far as I am concerned. Just not grosssly :p
Although i own stocks in both companies, Im selling NV, and buying ATI. I could be wrong, but ATI has great upside potential if they could fix their supply line problem.

epic

ATI overvalued at a forward P/E of about 13 with most analysts not having modeled their Qualcomm and Xbox2 royalty streams into earnings estimates??

This is not the appropriate thread for it, but you'll have to explain by what financial metrics you arrive at that outrageous conclusion.

With Nintendo and Xbox royalites ATI has a good future. Providing PS3 doesn't kill them both.

Ati and Nvidia have had ever increasing cache sizes for several generations now. Its basically already in there to some degree.

That's true, but they are smaller data buffers if I remember correctly. I'm talking about cache that would be specific to graphical features (texturing, ect....). I would think that it would require a pretty beefy chunk of memory to do this though. :?

I'm more excited about X-box 2, when can I buy one. Quick, seamless effortless high resolution big screen online gaming with great voice integration without feedback, echos and games played without scipts, binds, aimbot, see through walls crap.

Sign me up.

"Buzz" was at its peak IMO after 3dfx acquired GigaPixel. There'd be lots of talk about multi-chip, load balancing, benefits of TBR, powerVR, Geometry processing on graphics cards etc. And of course, Rampage, Fear etc.

Quoted for truth.
Everybody, name three upcoming titles which will truly push the graphics envelope.
They don't even have to be exciting from a gameplay perspective (that's apparantly too much to ask for).

yeah high resolution Xbox Live will rock. Most of my best online moments (outside of RTS's/RPG's) over the past 18 months have been on Live.

The AAA game titles issue is one that hasn't been lost on the IHV's either.

When you consider that not even Doom 3 or HL2 broke the 1 million sold mark.... they are somewhere over 500,000 each.

It does not leave a lot of Motivation for Developers, Publishers or IHV's to waste a lot of time and money in the PC space.

AFAIK, D3 reached 1 milion copies month after it had been released and HL2 current number is 1.7milion copies.

yes, these numbers are more worldwide numbers.. Hellbinder was referring to sales in one country .. I think

.... anyway, Hellbinder does have a point, as even say 1.7 million does not compare to say the >6.4 million  copies of Halo 2 that have been sold.. heh

No i saw a report on the internet last week that said PC games sales only had 2 titles that passed 500,000 copies in 2004. and only a few more even reached 250,000.

Lets face it, for years I've been a member here arguing about a pixel here and a pixel there, being a online gamer since Diablo 1 & Duke 3D it really is about your gaming expience, Sure about every year their is one PC title that kicks ASS. After looking and playing the online games available for X-box live, the PC pales in comparison. Which is powered by a really ancient processor and entry level PC graphics chip.
As I get older, the PC is starting to become more of a PC then gaming machine.' Hey I just bought me a X800XT-PE to run sims at 1,920x1,080 2x FSAA...yehhh sign me up :( '

Consoles deliver decent grahics and great online play without hacks today, tomorrow with much improved technology makes anyone interested with getting a good gaming experience at half the price of a decent modern 3D graphics card the 'Buzz' to follow. IMO PC gaming will be a thing of the past in five years.

Still:

Half-life 2, the follow-up to the hit 2000 Half-life, is already clocking up a massive success. With nearly 1.7 million copies sold in less than two months, this new release by Sierra Entertainment (a VU Games company) and Valve looks set to become one of the biggest hits of 2005. Sales have been particularly good in Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Scandinavia – as well as the US.

This is from Vivendi and doesn't include sales through the Steam.

I know quite a few people who'd disagree with you. As far as competitive FPS games (the most popular online genre perhaps?) go, the PC can't be beat, and won't be until a gamepad can offer better control than a keyboard and mouse. That said, other than online shooters I've found no PC games engrossing enough for me to stick with them, and have been playing my Gamecube far more lately.

Wonder why I mentioned the northern balkans heh....CroTeam was supposed to release in 2004. I really hope they'll make it this year on shelves.
