lack of 3rd party on gamecube

He tried I got that, but it wasn't funny. I stated a fact, which he tried to downplay with humour.
actually, when i said POP:WW was best on the cube i meant it. sure, the xbox version looked better here and there but it had this wierd audio problem. so did the pc release. and the ps2 had some stuttering here and there. the cube had the most consistent out of the box experience. not that any version was bad.

if that was directed at me. i'm confused now.

Someone here is trying to be funny and someone is not getting it.

How is it fact though?

The only important differences between those versions are purely technical. Granted this is from IGN, but these features can't be twisted around

"The Recommendation: If you're a graphics addict go for the PC, but the Xbox provides the most complete package. The extra online modes add replay value. And, on the home theater front, Dolby Digital sounds fantastic and widescreen progressive scan looks great.

Between GameCube and PlayStation 2, we'd recommend the GCN for its better framerate and smoother visuals. There's a small gap between the two, but the framerate troubles on PS2 are fairly frequent.

Overall Winner: Xbox

Winner Ranking:
1. Xbox
2. PC
3. GameCube
4. PlayStation 2"

Xbox version is the only one with widescreen progressive scan, it has higher res textures, Dolby Digital, better quality fmv than the Cube version. PS2 version suffers from jerky framerate and longer load times, but has the best quality fmv.

No need to get confused it was directed to pc-engine, I just think that the Xbox version is the best, and I'm not alone on that. I haven't come across any audio problems on my copy of that game on Xbox.

Some technical flaws in the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of the game also mar the experience somewhat. The Xbox version is prone to audio glitches. Certain sound effects get stuck, and, at other times, scenes that should have voice in them are cut off completely. This is a shame, because the sound effects in the game, aside from some ham-handed voice acting from the prince, are excellent and impactful. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 2 version's flaws are graphical. As a result, the game has a slightly choppier frame rate than the other versions. While it's not enough to hinder gameplay or combat, it does detract a bit from an otherwise beautiful-looking game. We didn't notice any sound or frame rate issues with the GameCube version of Warrior Within, however.

i've seen the sound issue in the pc version, it's pretty annoying. i haven't witnessed it first hand on the xbox, though.

That is weird, I didn't experience any problems, maybe they were playing some beta-version of the game :D

could be. like i said i never actualy saw it on the xbox, i just took gamespot's word for it after seeing similar issues on the pc.

It's not a conspiracy or a scheme. What you describe has already been done before in the past... by NINTENDO during the NES days. 3rd party software doesn't sell as well on the GC. Off hand I can only think of Soul Caliber as being the rare exception.

XBox certainly see's higher overall third party sales, but GC is nowhere near as bad as you think for third party games. There are plenty of multi-platform games that sell well on GC and plenty that sell as well or better on GC then on XBox or even PS2 sometimes (Tony Hawks, Sonic, TimeSplitters, LOTR, James Bond, Soul Calibur, Harry Potter and more).

Since Magnum PI mentioned Burnout, the first version sold better on GC then any other system. Burnout 2 for GC sold basically the same as the PS2 and XBox versions (within 10k of each other last time I saw numbers). So poor third party sales definitely can't be used to explain all of the poor third party support out there. EA claimed Burnout 3 wasn't being ported to GC because they wanted to focus on online gaming.. wether that's entirely true or not is another matter.

What I will say about third party games is that some publishers gave GC crap support from the very beginning. Releasing their games late and sometimes poorly optimised. Then when the game sold poorly they took that as a problem with GC's userbase rather then a problem with there own attitude towards the system. Although undoubtedly in general third party games do sell less on GC then on XBox and PS2.

Plenty? define what you mean by "plenty". I think your minimizing what' been happening this past four years. Yes gamecube's situation is as bad as he thinks. How many 3rd party games had been released this year compared to Xbox?

It's gone from the sales generally being lower on third party gamecube games, to the game not appearning on the system at all. I think that makes for the "bad situtation" that has been implied in this thread.

I can't give an exact number, also I think plenty was the wrong word to use. I just meant that there are quite a few multi-platform franchises that sell well on GC.

The situation certainly isn't good. All I'm saying is there are a lot more examples of third party games selling well on GC then Soul Calibur 2 alone.

Also yes lesser third party sales on GC has meant less third party support. But clearly poor sales aren't the only thing that is causing this lack of support (witness games like Burnout). Not that I necessarily subscribe to the theory of MS paying developers not to support GC.

Another possible reason. Almost all of the GC owners I know own atleast 1 other system. The GC isn't their primary system. From my experience they usually only use it to play GC exclusives. I see that alot.

I've also heard Nintendo has the highest royalty fees of any console. I imagine that factors into it a bit.
