Even though I think Dig is about as eloquent as a donkey-elephant hybrid, I have to agree with him there. [H]'s view on what to review when is ridiculous.
Have you ever read a donkey-elephant hybrid's posts? They ramble all over the place!

Kyle says he won't review the X1800XT because it isn't going to be available for awhile(3-4 weeks). In most every other review, it's the X1800XT that really puts the wood to the 7800GTX - at least in D3d. The X1800XL that Kyle does review is "just" on par with the 7800GT.....

However, he does review the X1600.....which won't be available till the end of November.........huh? Yea, that's standing by his....um....scruples? Riiiight......

Bingo! :devilish:

Dare I mention a little birdie whispered something in my ear this morning, that a certain IHV who just so happens to be a competitor to ATI was sending out e-mails this week suggesting a few things, such as not reviewing their competitor's parts that aren't yet available.

This has been yet another episode of the Emmy-winning soap opera, All Our ALUs. Stay tuned for our next exciting episode as we watch more fecal matter hit the oscillating unit.

Oh no, please don't tell me... :???:

Anyone got a copy of that e-mail? :-|

I do worry for Kyle and the survival of his web site.

After all, he's just ruled himself out of any future hardware "exclusives", hasn't he? You can't have an "exclusive" about something which is available on the open retail market so how is he going to attract hits to his site?

No exclusives = reduced revenue.

I wonder how long it will be before he changes his 'must be on the market' stance to hardware reviews?

I can't believe Matrox would go and do such a thing! Shame on .... THEM!

I suppose "Ask Kyle for his." would be a little on the snooty side?

And how surprising that of all the review sites, it's the independent minded Kyle Bennet at [H] that happens to agree with that sentiment. Colour me not surprised at all.

When the next Nvidia pre-release product arrives in his mailbox.

Haven't we said repeatedly that [H] is stupid and should probably die for being absolutely ridiculous, yet they haven't even taken a dip in hits?

Probably get me banned again, but what the hell:

Just a couple of quick questions....

I read this on another site:

In a "preview" I'm rather disappointed [H] left the XT out of their article. I hope this 'standard' is applied across the board for all future previews, so when Intel or AMD launch a new product [H]'s preview won't actually include benchmark tests/scores unless the part is available from e-tailers that very day. And that would make for some amusing reading: "Hey, today we're bringing you a preview of the FX-59; unfortunately, browsing around major e-tailers shows that it's not yet available for purchase, so our preview today will consist of a brief write-up on this new part, followed by scores from the competitor's parts that are available for purchase. Bon appetit!"
Do you think you sort of hamstrung yourself on future previews by setting the standard on product availability?

Also, I read this and wondered if there was any truth to it:

Did you receive any e-mails from any competitors of ATi last week suggesting to you that you not review products that aren't on the market?
Think he'll respond calmly and rationally? :-|

To answer your questions, "no" and "no". But I am sure if there is some half baked conspiracy theory to be dreamed up and spewed without regard for the truth, you are the one to get the ball rolling.
That answers that question. :)

While that's probably the most rational post you've ever made, Dig, he can't respond to it publicly.

APPARENTLY I WAS WRONG.

Websites, just like IHVs, have faanboyz of their own. And I don't want any site to die, though I do wish some of the hardware reviewers would take a course in Aristotlean logic.

I don't mind. At least he answered the question. I can even understand the backhanded remark, given your reputation. ;)

Of course he'll say that whatever Nvidia told him to say was all his own idea anyway - that's what he's done in the past. NV30, Nvidia benchmark cheats, 3Dmark, etc.
Well yeah, but at least he answered it which was more than I expected.

Brent's "NV40 blew R420 out of the water" comment is nagging at me too, it doesn't sound very Brentish or reality-based. :???:

Except it did, with the exception of the 12-pipe R420s that could be modded into 16 pipe versions. You could actually buy a 6800 Ultra, whereas you couldn't buy an X800 XTPE for months. 6600GT versus anything ATI had at that price = no comparison. NV4x had SM3.0, R4xx didn't. NV4x had SLI, R4xx didn't. It might not have blown it out of the water in terms of absolute benchmark scores, okay, but in every other regard? Yeah. Blown.

The one I heard about didn't go out "last week" (darn it, Digi, you should have read JR's closer, or worded it "in the last seven days" or somesuch), so I'm not sure Kyle's response proves anything other than Kyle is an expert at finding a loophole that he can use however he likes --but we knew that from the gymnastics on X1800xt vs X1600xt.

Tho it does show a bit of sloppiness for NV PR to leave it that late in the day to make a push to kill reviews --and make no mistake, that was the suggestion, with apparently a hint of what kind of folks wouldn't follow such a reasonable policy.
