Kyle throws a [H]issy fit about CrossFire shipping late

Better to be late than rubbish (or late and rubbish). I know I'd rather wait a while for something that works than get something faulty and full of unusable marketing checkboxes. Especially when R5x0 looks like it's going to be fast and full of features.

How dare you say that!.........;)

Can we bring up the video processor in NV40?
If that's the reason why ATi promises immediate availability and can't keep that promise, yes you can.

Come on, historical context does matter for proportionality, tho there is no specific need to drag in NV30. The previous releases of both companies over many years are relevant --if not in judging whether the bright-line test was failed, then in judging how serious it is and how loud the complaints ought to be.

Will he review the X1800XT tomorrow? If he does that, he will loose a lot of credibility as it seems pretty certain now that the card will not be available in quantity for a while. It will also show, if he reviews it, how hollow his words are. I suppose it is a question of journalistic integrity or reaping the money of all the hits he will take of the review.

"The video card models ATI have provided us with are the Radeon X1800 XT, the Radeon X1800 XL, the Radeon X1600 XT, and the Radeon X1300 Pro. However, because of actual availability concerns, there is no point in showing you evaluation on all of them at this time. The only card that will matter to most of you reading this will be the X1800 XL, which is supposed to be available today.

Kyle keeps his credibility .. love him or loathe him he stands by his six shooters ! :)

More like he stuck to his wallet!

We also decided to focus on the Radeon X1600 XT although it won’t actually be out for quite a while (around November 30th). I know that this might sound slightly hypocritical to include this video card in our evaluation given what we just said above about availability of the X1800 XT, we decided to include this video card specifically because it too will be one of the more popul and mass distributed video cards for gamers.

And I'm not sure who wrote this bit:

Will these ATI X1000 series cards just be another carrot on a string? Will ATI actually execute their plan and bring the X1000 series to market as they have explained they will? We certainly know that we are waiting to see what they actually do and will not trust what they say for quite some time. The time for empty promises is over. (As of 8:21am this morning on October 5, 2005, searches for "x1800" "x1600" and "x1300" GPUs covered here turn up no results at Newegg, ClubIT, or Zip Zoom Fly.)

One thing is certain though; if you play on the red side of the fence, you no longer have to be green with envy at the other kids who are already enjoying life with Shader Model 3.0 and HDR. There is now another choice (if/when they become available in retail), and when it comes down to it, the more choices for the consumer, the better off we all are.

If you are an ATI fan, the X1800 and X1600 cards look to be worth the wait. If you are not an ATI fan, you will likely be better off purchasing an GeForce 7800 series card if you are a serious gamer.
Good to know serious gamers still choose nVidia over a [T], eh?

Oh, and gotta love Kyle's additions:

(Editor's note: Some X1000 video cards are expected to be in retail stock the morning of 10/6/05, but this has yet to be realized at publication time. We will update this as needed.)

...

(Editor's Note: We will be searching throughout the day/week/month to see whether or not there is actual retail availability or if this is just another empty promise.)
I actually didn't like the review there much this time. :???:

Hexus have made a point about limited samples, Tech report have complained about the time allotted.

It seems a good card but Ati seem to be dropping the ball somewhat and this has taken some of the glow off the reviews. Mind you that is not as bad as nvidia with the Fx range, they had a bad card and managed to make matters worse over the next year !

I understood that as price/performance remark, though.
Kind of hard to make price/performance calls before the parts are actually available for sale.

Now why is that? ;)
I kind of felt they were looking for things to attack more than being objective. The technical stuff was fine, it was the commentary that turned me off.

That and the hypocrisy. "We're only gonna review the X1800 XL since that's the only one that will be supposedly available soon....oh, and we'll be reviewing the X1600 too, but only since we think people are interested in it."

Puh-lease!

I didnt catch that. I also wasnt aware the X1800XL was the only product available at launch.

Even though I think Dig is about as eloquent as a donkey-elephant hybrid, I have to agree with him there. [H]'s view on what to review when is ridiculous.

I took their serrios gamer comment to me mean, that for those users its high res, max aa/af which the 7800gtx can give you NOW. Where as you have to wait a bit longer for the 18000xt...with Fear, Q4, SS2 and other titles out before the 1800xt shows up.....

Just another way for Kyle to review a new ATI card, get hits from it, but comply with his overlord masters at Nvidia by making sure anything good that ATI makes is tarnished with whatever cloud he can find.

Think if Nvidia said they were shipping a couple of days later than launch, Kyle would be getting all his panties in a twist and implying they are lying when they say it will be in shops in a few days?

anyone find ANY of it for sale ANYWHERE yet? after all the delay you'd think at least that would be coordinated...product on the shelf...at LEAST available for order from website! i haven't been everywhere, but i haven't found anything yet.

or am i way off on this?

The hilarious thing is that NVIDIA have paperlaunched a product since 7800 GTX and GT, but nobody paid attention to that since it was just IGP, who cares right?

Yawn!

Quiet, you. As Sander said, nobody cares about motherboards. :p

When was the launch date for the IGP? I can't remember for sure, but you can buy the mobos at newegg already.

Looking at the hardforum SFF forum, it looks like a different model was available on Sept. 21st.
