Kojima leaves Konami to start new Studio *Confirmed*

I loved the cut scenes in MGS4. Wonderful 100% japanese wackiness.
Didn't you feel that Godzilla might appear at any moment? And if he did, that would be totally normal!

Wait. Wait wait wait. Wait!

So Konami removed HK's name from all MGS games on their website.

And people extrapolated that this is a sign that he's leaving?

That's it?

Cause, unless it was some sort of very sick joke, or glitch, there is no way that the departure of a game creator or director would result in the publisher removing his name from his creations.

He's still the guy who made those games and his name will forever be attached to them, even after he leaves Konami, even after he dies, even after Konami dies.

It's almost like removing JK Rowling's name from all the Harry Potter books if she ever changed publishing houses. Come on people!

So the question is, what is really going on?

I tend to think it's all a marketing thing.

Of course not. Removal of Kojima's branding was just the opening salvo. Few hours later Gamespot reported what happened inside KojiPro offices:

edit -
In addition to that initial news, Konami started looking for new seasoned developers that would like to work on new Metal Gear series. They are already anticipating that a lot of KojiPro leadership will leave them soon.

Ah ok I did miss that. All I want is ZOE3 to be honest, don't care where he makes it.
Konami own that IP. Everything he's known for - MGS, ZoE, PT and the new Silent Hill game - is all owned by Konami. Unless he does further contract work for them, he'll be working on different games.

BTW, how blatantly photoshopped are those Konami executive photos!

Would have made them better.

Godzilla would definitely make any MGS game better. In fact, I'd rather watch the 90s Godzilla movie with Matthew Broderick than watch a Kojima cutscene. I'm not sure why, but for some reason started calling the guy an auteur, and put the idea in his head that he's a "director", the video-game equivalent of a cinematic genius. He's more like the Michael Bay of video games. He makes huge productions, revelling in excess, with terrible humour, convoluted stories and about a 5th-grade level of sophistication. Metal Gear will be better off without him. At least there's a basic premise and mechanic that can be refined into a decent game without all the crap piled on top.

Not even enough! Making godzilla fit perfectly would need him to have his entire left side cyborg, shoot lazers from his ass, walking by skipping on one leg, and barking like a dog.

And that would be awesome.

The way it works in La La Land (the UK) is for example like when the BBC fires people to 'cut costs'. Then re-hires those same employees as 'contractors', at double the cost/salary.

Wouldn't be surprised if this happens here too.

Kudos on finding a Kojima cutscene less than a minute long. :yep2:

I like the way Kojima gives not a single shit about having a cutscene respect the player's choices in the gameplay section that ended milliseconds before.

Examples:
- Kill Sniper Wolf with stinger missles to the face / cutscene with long drawn out death from a "lung shot"
- Refuse to kill Solidus and beat him exclusively with stun / cutscene to you killing him by slashing his back open with a sword

No shits given. You chose to do this? Fuck you, this is the cutscene I want to make! [And it is a long cutscene]

Kojima didn't want to make more Metal Gear games so:

-He gets his way, gets to work on other projects, no more Metal Gear games by him.
-He doesn't get his way, he's fired/resigns, no more Metal Gear games by him.

So what's the big deal?

To me it looks entirely a Kojima decision.
Something like:
- I want to stop making MGS!
- But it's our main franchise and your name is all over it.
- Fine. I resign. And remove my name from it!

Maybe the games will actually get good after he's gone. The basic mechanics are fine, so get someone that actually cares about game play instead of lengthy cut-scenes with terrible humour and unintelligible plot-lines.

I was kinda thinking the same. The games themselves are ok but derivative in their controls, look and play, and good god they need an editor for the cut scenes and dialog! In that respect to me him leaving is a good thing, the MGS series needs a fresh approach.

I'll always remember an old interview where Kojima was kinda complaining having being forced (or a similar word) to direct himself the latest Metal gear game.

Like if he was waiting for someone else to direct the game, but as nobody wanted to take this role, he was forced by necessity to direct the game himself (I just remember the gist of the interview, he probably didn't use the word 'forced').

The reason I remember this interview is because I had already found it odd, years ago.

It was during the PS2 era during MGS2 or MGS3 launch, I do believe it was for MGS2 launch.
