KILLZONE Shadow Fall [PS4]

I suspect that Lukah will end up being a constant AI companion, and I wouldn't be surprised if she was Hahka's daughter or relative. Either that, or you will constantly switch between the Shadow Marshall or the Helghan agent. Likely they're both trying to stop whoever is causing trouble. Finally, we can get another Helghan protagonist.

Frankly, Guerrilla really hasn't done that good of a job with the series overall. Sure, they managed to live up somewhat to the overdone expectations Sony put on them, but their writing has just suffered.

First KZ2 either makes all the characters pansies or makes them disappear form the story, and undoes a great deal of character development in the process.

KZ1, for all its problems, had a really good war story with interesting characters. By the end of KZ1 Rico shouldn't have been acting as much like a meat head in KZ2, and there was still plenty more character development available from the KZ1 characters. Instead, Hahka disappears entirely, as does Luger. Somehow Yan goes from a command leader to a battlegroup commander? Heck, Luger should have been guarding his ass and maybe he wouldn't have died.

Writing themselves into a hole at the end of KZ3, at least they found an interesting way to move forward the series with KZSF. Hopefully they can continue based more of the story of KZ1 and the gameplay of KZ3.

Lukah you mean? But no I don't think it's anyone we knew from the previous Killzones. Totally wouldn't mind play her for a decent chunk of game either.

I didn't know her name. Just meant that she could be a Hakha kind of element in the game. A defected Helghan or somthing. If her name is Lukah , then it definitely seems that way, it just rhymes too much with Hakha ;) !

I am sad every time I play a game that has a story that I feel I could do a better job at in about one day's work. I would do it for free, too, just for the love of the game. Sure, I agree that gameplay is more important, but if you have to make cutscenes anyway to hide load-times, then why not make them count. ;)

For what it's worth, some of the cutscenes in KZ3 were at least nice to look at. But story/direction wise it was a bit of a disjointed mess.

The setup has a lot of story potential. But the gameplay we've seen so far doesn't suggest much on a story level. On the other hand, gameplay is still more important, and that looks promising to me. And the game's Berlin wall setup certainly gives a lot of room for some good story-telling.

Titanfall is pretty much Killzone 3 caliber in higher res, not even remotely close to Shadowfall.

But at 60fps, it looks very pleasing. There was a Digital Foundry video at 60fps, which was very nice. Yes, I'm a sucker for 60fps.

I wish they went for a 60fps Killzone.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot! Anyone else looking forward to the return of secondary fire? It was missing from KZ2 and 3. I missed using the underslung shotgun on the Helghan assault rifle. Although think plenty were tired of the ISA assault rifle's noob tube grenade launcher.

Such a shame that the KZ game with the worst gameplay had some of the coolest features. Although I suppose the for KZ2 and 3, they were already right up against the memory limits for the PS3 in trying to match the stupid pre-rendered video Sony put out.

*Sigh* I kinda wanted to see how KZ2 would have looked if they didn't have to match the video so much.

That railgun-rifle that the main character has. It seems to operate like a Mass Effect weapon honestly, but open topped to you can see the accelerator coils pushing rounds down what you could call its barrel. That weapon design is awesome, and it, like the rest of KZ's weapons don't get enough recognition.

I suspect that that weapon is specific to him, and will stay with you over the course of the game.

It's also a marvel that they made the Cockney accent menacing somehow.

I'm starting to like this forest level now, it's actually quite beautiful in its own right especially with the nice lighting and expansive view.

People Herman Hulst has already confirmed there will be segments quite similar to KZ2's atmosphere later on in the game, they are not deviating that much from the predecessors so rest assured you will get those chaotic moments as we all hold near and dear close ;).

Do you know where he said that? I would love to hear that :)

Well, I definitely welcome that. After going back to replay KZ1 HD, it definitely felt missing (more combat options at least).

Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing :?:

http://www.killzone.com/kz3/en_US/blog/news/2013-06-25_introducing_the_owl.html

What exactly is an OWL?
“The OWL is an advanced hovering attack drone used exclusively by the Shadow Marshals to give them all kinds of tactical abilities in the field. It attaches itself onto the Shadow Marshal’s suit until he gives it an order. When damaged, the OWL automatically returns and regenerates health until it receives an order again.”

What can the OWL do?
“The OWL has several modes you can access via the new PS4 Controller Touch Pad: Attack Mode, Zipline Mode, Stun Mode and Shield Mode.

Attack Mode orders the OWL to move to an area and attack anyone within range; alternatively, you can tell it to attack a single enemy directly.

Zipline Mode gets the OWL to fire a zipline, allowing the Shadow Marshal to traverse incredibly quickly from point A to B.

Stun Mode is similar to Attack Mode, but lets the OWL use up its energy to create an area-of-effect shock blast that turns off all nearby electronics and stuns humanoid enemies within range.

Lastly, Shield Mode creates an energy shield right in front of the Shadow Marshal, allowing bullets/projectiles to pass through from his POV but stopping bullets coming in from the other side.”

Where did the idea for the OWL come from?
“We wanted to give the player more control over buddies in our game, and we quickly gravitated towards utilizing our futuristic theme to create something very technologically advanced and also extremely useful in the field. It was important that it was easy to use in the fray of battle and have suitable abilities for every type of situation the game throws at you, on top of all the other abilities/weapons the Shadow Marshal has at his disposal.”

Zipline is a helper feature.

Hope the Helghasts have more tricks to counter my gears. :devilish:

Let's just hope they show more tech prowess from the ISA this time around, and not just to the Shadow Marshalls.

I felt sorry for the ISA grunts in KZ2 and 3 where they were going up against ATACs, MAWLERS, Heavies, cloaked troops, and more. Meanwhile, all you saw from the ISA were grunts, and most of the EXOs sat on the ships as they were shot out of the sky.

So, it's nice to give the Helghans a taste of their own medicine with the OWL.

ISA won't feature in this game at all, if I am not wrong. There were symbols of VSA on buildings of th e first demo and we play as Shadow Marshals, kindof a police force. I think Luger was a shadow marshal back in KZ1.

I really feel bad when GG just abandons its previous characters like that.
