KILLZONE Shadow Fall [PS4]

The scale and geometry density in this forest level is immense, not to mention the pristine lighting and particle effects. Personally I think GG should've shown a night level with all out battle, the lighting, explosions, particles and atmosphere would do no wrong! The forest level is just a bit tacked on but still pretty.

But this is exactly what I miss from the new footage. The level is to large for me, the action is to wide spread...like in Crysis 1, which I did not like that much.

I prefer the close frantic battling, with all exploding, all debris, all particle effects and smoke and sound....you know, exactly what Killzone 2 mastered and excelled at. The first KZ SF footage looked promising in this direction but this new footage did alarm me that this is the complete opposite direction they are going for. It is also clear, that for such a large open level, the graphical density cannot be that high.

I must say, the new footage did not wow me, in contrast...it got me a bit worried. Watching each iteration of GG I have the strong feeling that they leave their own path to match the expectations some press people have: more colors (since KZ2 first gameplay reveal...which was at E3 and press called it Greyzone...but it looked so stunning) and more open sandbox type gaming a la Halo/Crysis.

I hope not. Want KZ2 :(

I know what you mean, Herman Hulst did mention in the interview that we'll see KZ2 esque levels in Shadowfall too, so I'm not all that worried. And the game features a lot of different environment too so there's hoping Vektan city gets destroyed and burn in flame:).

Yeah, it would be great if you could visit the Helghan side of the city...and the style is all gritty and dark and industrial.

This looks way less exciting, and not even as graphically interesting, As Destiny and Titanfall...

It's not demonstrating to me the PS4 exclusive graphical edge I'd want to see, either.

May be the end for the KZ franchise imo if it doesn't sell well again. Guerrilla seem pretty creatively bankrupt.

That forest level at E3 just, really sent my interest down.

But, these e3 stage demo site at Gamespot I just found, seems cool. Even though they often just show the e3 clips rather than play the game. You can watch ajy past demos, and download them, so it's a neat setup

What are you even talking about :???:

I haven't seen all games of E3 but I would still say this is the best looking next gen game.

The lighting, draw distance is amazing. It looks like a Crysis game

It is so different from the video they showed in Feb:

I do not like too fast paced with shooting like crazy. But the first video it was like that. The forest video is great apart from mind blowing graphics of course. I just hope they can balance it well.

I didn't really like the ownl robot drone thing in the gameplay segment, at least the action where you can scan for environment and ennemies. Nice idea for using it as a distraction. But I hate assisting AIs and the thing also that diapointed me was the ability to see through walls... Hopefully we won't have to use it all the time. But the gameplay section they showed was boring to me. But hope to see more packed action.
So far I only saw games that only have graphical improvments...The only games that attracted me for gameplay are Infamous and Knack and some indie dev titles...

I also am frustrating with the new futuristic setting and the artistic direction the sequel is going. The previous itteration and setting had more much and what I d call "original killzone theme " ambiance and atmosphere. And there was so many things they could still do and find a new batleground on another colonized helghan planet.
It just feels no more unique than it used to be and look and more generic and going for Halo-like atmosphere and general look. The Helghast looked more frightening and here they look boring as hell.
The level they showed in the forest segment reminded me of Haze with the greenish yellowish colors lol.

I do hope Killzone will show something more exciting for me in the upcoming days and months.

Good for me that I like the change in gameplay :) ! Like I said, I keep dreaming of same open-nes on the Helghan side of the wall = Visual and Gaming Bliss !

BTW, in the video which showed the PS4 UI, you could see some MP info. Strangely it said 3/8 players ready or something. Maybe its just a private match or something , cos the game can't be 8 player MP ! KZ Mercenary has 8 player MP.

I still like what I'm seeing. The new gameplay additions sound good. The bigger maps, zip-lining all over the place, choosing the order in which to complete the missions, the Owl. It does make you seem a little bit overpowered atm.

IMO - graphics will be less and less a factor for me. I think current generation is already quite good - the biggest advancments were made in resolution and image-quality coming from last generation in SD resolutions. Going forward, I am happy to see that image-quality will get better and with easier to develop for consoles, hopefully we will see more consistent framerates and more creativity in game-play. Having that said, while I'm not blown away by the new KillZone stuff, I'm extremely pleased by it and looking forward to it.

I think the forrest stuff looks great and I can't wait to actually play it.

I just watched that GS 24mins and I am convinced the graphics have improved. After the new gameplay they are showing the first gameplay video in Feb. I was really surprised that people are not impressed with the graphics. For comparision sake here the Cryengine 3 beauty:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_pOgRapa18

When I saw the KZ:SF video I was like, they improved the graphics. Finally console can do such high fidelity graphics :)

If it plays differently every time and the AI is smart, then it will probably make the video more interesting.

Yeah, you do seem a little overpowered .

Yeah... gameplay video should show us the dramatic parts.

Still waiting for videos and shots on dramatic moments. ^_^
These shots are too peaceful. Try again photographer, or the dude generating the video.

Very rough looking. And one thing that stuck out for me like a sore thumb was the noticeable LOD transitions in the forest. And the framerate wasnt as consistent as I thought

Hopefully those are just placeholder textures in some of those shots. The textures in the second shot, for example, look truly horrible and not something I'd expect from a next gen game. Texture on the rocks in the forest is also so inconsistent with the texture quality in the rest of the scene. So bizarre.

SB
