Japan Lining Up For... Blue Dragon

I so want to live/visit (in) Japan for a while.

The contrast between all the bright lights and colors and the metal utilitarian structures that I see in all the pictures of the malls/shopping areas just look like the coolest thing in the world.

me too.. after seeing how Sofia Coppola presented Japan in Lost in Translation, Tokyo looks cool as hell.

Aren't all JPRGs 'easy'?

Aren't they all essentially 'stories' that you just follow along without and real threat of being 'killed' or having to really 'start over'?

No. Good JRPG put in alot of areas where you will get your ass totally kicked if you try to go at it too early, forcing you to come back later in the game when you're more powerful.

For example, in FF12, if you wander into the wrong area, you'll get absolutely stomped in about 30 seconds.

Generally the main quest is fairly easy, but again, good JRPG's will force you to level up in order to defeat the tougher bosses.

Well, just FYI not even the Japanese are fond of the architecture... there's a big push to see some sort of pre-war 'style' returned to Japanese architecture, whereas in recent years the state of things could best be described simply as: concrete.

But the lights... I'm with ya there. ;)

BTW, so is there a sales/snapshot update on how the day went in retail for Blue Dragon?

Awww, books could be written about that. Bummer that my FFX-2 review isn't done yet :D

But no. A good JRPG shouldn't be easy. You strategize, use the right equipment, use the right spells, that kind of thing. It isn't hard if you know how to beat an encounter, but there is fun in figuring that out. The nature of (semi-)turn based games then makes the individual fight easy to do, yes, but overall the game still can be a fun challenge.

A good JRPG doesn't need excruciatingly hard battles, but should provide enough variety to keep its battles interesting and engaging all the way through.

No. Really good JRPGs will above all force you to refine your tactics to defeat harder bosses. Best examples I can think of right now are SMT: Nocturne and BoF: DQ. The latter has the additional complexity of refusing to let you bypass challenges by extreme level grinding - I guess that's why it recieved scores in the lower 80's despite being one of the best last gen JRPGs.

Anyway, Rancid, play 3 hours of SMT:Nocturne and then rethink your statement ;)

On topic, If I could get a 360 + BD for $250, you can bet I would line up as well.

Depends on what you think 'really good' RPG's are I guess. I don't like RPG's where I can just walk through bosses without having to level up at least a little.

What makes a good Jrpg (or any rpg) for me is an engaging story, complex battle system and huge overworld. If a game has these three components executed well, you could substitute large pink turds for characters and I wouldn't care.

70,000 sold First Day

http://www.xbox-news.com/

As for number of sales of blue dragon first day approximately 70,000 book?
According to the information offer to XNEWS, number of sales of first day of the blue dragon which is sold on December 7th, including substance bundled edition, seems that is approximately 70,000 book.
In the software single item among those it is digestibility 58% in approximately 43,000 book.

Because this is the number only of 7 days which are weekday, as for with just the sale of first week with Xbox 360 title of the domestic market becoming most numerous you are not almost wrong, probably will be.
200,000 book it probably will put out the Microsoft sale goal, is, but directing to the goal achievement, you can call the favorable starting first.
Pill Gates, it is information offer [sankusu].

Pill Gates!

I love internet translators.

If it indeed sold 70,000, very nice. Definately more than I expected in Japan.

It's better than expected, but I feel MS will need more "dragons" for the japanese to even acknowlege the 360 existence.
At 250 USD + 1 AAA game - isnt that cheaper than a Wii?
