Japan gets Xbox 360 Premium for $350? No Core system?

Yes they do.

Generally most consumers are aware of the cheaper retail prices of many consumerable goods outside of their own territory.

Do you really think so?

Go to any electronics store, find someone looking at a TV or DVD player, and ask them the precise price of that item in Japan. See if you can find a single person who can give you a correct answer.

A lot of people know that electronic equipment tends to cost loss in the Far East. UK car buyers tend to realise that prices are cheaper across mainland Europe etc.

Being aware that some areas may have cheaper prices for some products is a long way from knowing precisely what the difference in price is on the other side of the world. I bet the average Brit couldn't tell you the price of a Jaguar in the US without looking it up first.

It has more to do with pleasing Square Enix than anything else.

Though I don't think we'll see anything else from Square Enix on the X360 other than the next online sequel to FFXI.

Anyway, I'm not complaining about the price. Honestly I was expecting to pay 45,000 yen for the premium pack. :p

Yeah I agree with that but my point is that consumers on the whole are aware of general price differences. Whether they do anything about it is another matter, it's more the government or regulator's role to try and fight the corner on their behalf.

Quick example is the cost of MP3 downloads from iTunes; there was a huge uproar over that. Same for audio CD's and cars.

In the console market most people know that if you buy a console from a different region your not going to be able to play games brought from the region you live in. So they begrudgingly accept it.

I'd be surprised if the average person at circuit city can tell me where Japan is.

(while I was living in the US people would ask me if Japan is the capital of China....)

That is seriously shameful for Americans.

Actually, I'm impressed that they guessed the right Continent.

From just before the war with Iraq.

A survey revealed that only one in seven aged between 18 and 24 could identify Saddam Hussein's land.

And while more than half knew that al-Qaeda and the Taliban were based in Afghanistan, only one in six could find the country on a map.

Even more worrying - one in 10 couldn't pick out America.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/page.cfm?objectid=12391626&method=full&site id=50143

Almost a third of Americans believe Canada is part of the US.

I'm sure we could all dig up lots of stories (I know a few myself ;) ) but the state of the general knowledge of the average US citizen (or any other nationality) isn't really a valid topic for this forum.

It is relevent to this thread. The theory was presented that there would be consumer backlash in the US due to the cheaper price of the 360 in Japan.

Our counter is most Americans couldn't even find Japan on a map, much less know what the price of the 360 is over there.

Your own evidence goes against you. It states that Americans knew that al-Qaeda and the Taliban were based in Afghanistan but couldn't find it on a map. Let me translate that "Americans knew the price of the xbox360 in Japan but couldn't find Japan on a map." Geography skills have absolutely NO revelence to the knowledge somebody has about a place.

Geography? Iraq? Afghanistan?!

I thought i modded my computer to stay well clear from the ReligiousPoliticalChristianFundamentalist forum!!!

Did you notice that 1 in 10 Americans couldn't find AMERICA on a map?

I used geography as an example. Americans are stupid. they don't know, and really don't care what is going on outside of their own little world.

Think about this:

• nearly 30 percent of those surveyed could not find the Pacific Ocean, the world’s largest body of water;
• more than half—56 percent—were unable to locate India, home to 17 percent of people on Earth; and
• only 19 percent could name four countries that officially acknowledge having nuclear weapons.

1 in 10 Amreicans can't find the US on a map. 3 in 10 can't find the Pacific Ocean.

Thinking these same people would have a clear idea of how much the 360 sells for in Japan is beyond unreasonable, it's just plain silly. I would be willing to bet most of them don't know the price of a gallon of gas at their own local gas station unitl after they pull in and start pumping.

Geographies not a fair comparison. Ask me a load of questions on my local geography and I won't know, but that doesn't mean I don't know about prices of CE goods or the life and times of various classical composers or reliability of all the worlds automobilies manufactured in the last 20 years.

Though I agree in that I doubt most US (or any other) Joe Public's don't know what's going on with international prices of CE goods, I don't think likening it to one area of expertise is valid, and you're really walking into flame territory talking about Americans as 'dumb'

And would you describe yourself as average?

George Carlin said it best.

Take the intelligence level of the average person you see on the street, and remember that half the country is more stupid than that.

BTW, I am an American, and I can assure you I never stop and think "Damn, look at all of these intelligent people" as I sit in my car on the way to work.

While I admit American are as stupid as stupid gets, but there's one thing they are pretty sharp about. Getting a good deal... well, at least complaining about it. More over, we're talking about gamers... usually not the bottom rung on the ladder of knowledge. Anyway, gamers may not be able to find where Japan is located, but all they need to know is Japan is getting what they want, 1SKU for $360, which by the way is plastered all over the forums, so at the least the hardcore will know and probably pass it on to others.

I hate to tell you this, but your (crappy) argument is putting you into that below average category. Please stop dumping your ignorant rant on this thread.

These were the same people who bought over a million copies of Enter the Matrix, right?

What they "need" to know, and what they do are two entirely different things. Seriously, go to your local Best Buy, WalMart, or even EB games, and ask a few people if they know how much consoles cost in Japan. I'll bet the majority either think there is no difference in price, or that it costs more in Japan.

Calling it an "ignorant" rant suggest you have some kind of evidence to the contrary.

Care to share it, or should I write your statement off as an ignorant claim?

The general mainstream wont care... I'll give you that :)

But the first few millions that will potentially get the X360 at launch aren't the mainstream...

They're the hardcore gamers that are well aware of what is going on in the gaming world...
